Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month at Walt Disney World: Luis Fonsi's visit, Encanto and Coco photo ops in all four parks, and three shops for the Coco collection

Walt Disney World is marking Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15 under the banner Together We Are Magia, with Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as the celebration's celebrity guest. Disney Parks Blog announced the month with five Latin acts for Eat to the Beat at EPCOT, Latin American characters in a Magic Kingdom cavalcade, themed Movies Under the Stars nights at the resort hotels and a new Disney and Pixar Coco merchandise collection. Disney's own event page now fills in where all of that lives: four Encanto and Coco Magic Shots and a candle prop spread across all four theme parks, the Marketplace at Disney Springs and two hotels, Mariachi Cobre and the Viva Gaia Street Band on the entertainment list, and three named shops for the Coco collection.

Key Details

Luis Fonsi's day at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom

Fonsi, the Puerto Rican singer best known worldwide for the 2017 hit "Despacito," is the celebrity face of this year's celebration. Disney says he spoke about music, family and his Puerto Rican roots as part of the campaign.

On a recent trip to the resort, he watched ¡Celebración Encanto! at EPCOT, where he met Mirabel and Bruno and joined the show's Storytellers and Primos for music and dancing. He also rode his favorite attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the EPCOT roller coaster that opened in 2022, and met his favorite Disney character, Mickey Mouse.

"It's an honor to be part of this celebration and to share all the magia that happens when we come together as one. As a Puerto Rican, I'm incredibly proud of my roots and of the opportunity to celebrate our culture with families from around the world." Luis Fonsi

Where the five PhotoPass photo ops are

Magic Shots are the PhotoPass photographer pictures that get a character or an effect added after the shutter clicks. Guests pose with the photographer, the finished image lands in My Disney Experience, and downloading it takes Memory Maker or the Disney PhotoPass Downloads benefit, which Disney sells as an add-on to an annual pass rather than bundling it in. Disney's event page lists four character Magic Shots and one handheld prop for the month, and the locations overlap enough that a guest can collect three of them at one stop.

The Mirabel Magic Shot is the most widely available of the set. At Disney's Animal Kingdom it is offered near the park entrance and in Asia near Feathered Friends in Flight!, at EPCOT it is in World Celebration, and at Disney's Hollywood Studios it is in Animation Courtyard.

The Antonio Magic Shot puts Mirabel's animal-loving cousin, his capybara and a flight of toucans into the frame. It is an Animal Kingdom exclusive, offered near the park entrance and in front of the Tree of Life on Discovery Island, which is the right park for a boy whose gift is talking to animals.

The Bruno Magic Shot has him appear beside the guest, cloak and all. It shares the Animal Kingdom park-entrance and Feathered Friends in Flight! spots with Mirabel and Antonio, it is in World Celebration at EPCOT, and it is also offered at select Disney Resort hotels. Disney does not name which hotels.

A woman holds a lit candle at night in the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT, the picture Disney runs beside its Encanto candle prop listing; Disney's own caption calls it an ofrenda candle for Día de los Muertos.

The fifth op is a physical prop rather than a digital addition: the guest holds the Madrigal family's enchanted candle for the photo. It is offered at Animation Courtyard in Disney's Hollywood Studios, at Magic Kingdom on the path between Pirates of the Caribbean and Tiana's Bayou Adventure, and at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in the second-floor photo studio. That Magic Kingdom spot is the only one of the five inside that park.

Put together, the Animal Kingdom park entrance covers Mirabel, Antonio and Bruno in one visit, and World Celebration at EPCOT covers Mirabel and Bruno. A guest chasing the full set needs Animal Kingdom, EPCOT and either Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom for the candle, plus a detour to the Disney Springs Marketplace or the Mexico pavilion for Héctor.

Latin acts at Eat to the Beat, Mariachi Cobre in Mexico and a street band at Animal Kingdom

The heaviest dose of live music comes from Eat to the Beat, the concert series that runs during the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival and plays at America Gardens Theatre in World Showcase. Five of this season's acts play inside the heritage month window:

Three performers in matching black leather vests, trousers and sunglasses posing against a plain backdrop

Disney's event page adds "among others" to that list, so the festival's other acts are still playing on the nights in between. There is a gap between September 24 and October 5 with no Latin act on the list, so guests who want one of these shows should build their EPCOT day around the dates above. Eat to the Beat is included with park admission.

EPCOT has a second, everyday layer. Mariachi Cobre, the resort's resident mariachi ensemble, plays the Mexico pavilion daily, and it moved inside the pyramid this month, into the spot the Kidcot station used to hold. Disney's Animal Kingdom gets the Viva Gaia Street Band, the troupe that plays Discovery Island; Disney's listing bills it as a 30 minute Caribbean street party and, when checked on September 22, posted sets at 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. For all of these, the Entertainment Schedule and the My Disney Experience app carry the showtimes, and Disney notes they are subject to change.

Characters at Magic Kingdom and the ¡Celebración Encanto! sing-along

Over at Magic Kingdom, the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade carries a lineup with strong Latin American ties: Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto, Miguel from Coco, Princess Elena of Avalor, and José Carioca and Panchito, the two birds from The Three Caballeros who also ride with Donald Duck through Gran Fiesta Tour in the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT. Disney says more characters appear beyond those, and its listing bills the cavalcade as carrying the most characters of any cavalcade to date. The route runs from Frontierland through Liberty Square and down Main Street, U.S.A., and the listing carried a single 11:05 a.m. run when checked on September 22.

Back at EPCOT, ¡Celebración Encanto! leads the Featured Offerings carousel on Disney's event page. It is a sing-along at CommuniCore Plaza in World Celebration that celebrates the Madrigal family, and Disney still describes it as a limited-time show without giving an end date. Mirabel and Bruno both appear in it, and the listing showed three morning performances, at 9:45, 10:45 and 11:45 a.m., when checked on September 22.

Three permanent stops Disney is pointing guests toward

Three experiences that will outlast the month share that carousel. Bluey's Wild World at Conservation Station, the play experience at Disney's Animal Kingdom that opened May 26 and is still flagged as new on Disney's page, has Bluey and Bingo. It is reached by the Wildlife Express Train, and its listing showed two daily windows, 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., on September 22.

Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, the nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom, carries Coco and Encanto moments in its lineup of Disney and Pixar stories.

The park-by-park picks, including where to eat

Disney's event page also sorts its recommendations by park, and the food picks are the useful part.

The Coco collection: four characters, three shops

A new Disney and Pixar Coco collection built around family, music and tradition is part of the month. Disney Parks Blog called out three pieces by name, a Miguel mug, a floral tee and an alebrije headband, with more items in the range, and Disney's event page adds that the collection features Dante, Ernesto de la Cruz, Héctor and Miguel.

The shop list is new. The collection is stocked at World of Disney at Disney Springs, at Plaza de los Amigos, the open-air marketplace in EPCOT's Mexico pavilion, and at Beverly Sunset Boutique at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney says it is available while supplies last and still lists no prices.

Movie nights at the resort hotels

Guests staying at select Disney Resorts Collection hotels get their own piece of the celebration through Movies Under the Stars, the complimentary outdoor screenings most Disney-owned hotels run on the lawn or by the pool. Disney Parks Blog said select nights would add Hispanic and Latin American inspired storytelling, music and dance alongside the film, and Disney's event page names Encanto and Coco as the films on the schedule. Neither says which nights or which resorts. Showtimes come from the Cast Member at the hotel front desk rather than the app, and they are subject to change.

What ends on October 15, and what has no end date

Every piece of this celebration runs on the calendar: the heritage month closes October 15, the last Latin act on the Eat to the Beat list, Viva Latina, plays October 11, and the Coco collection runs only while supplies last. Disney gives no end date for the Magic Shots, the candle prop or ¡Celebración Encanto!, but every one of them is filed under the heritage month page, so a visit before October 15 is the safe plan for the photo set. Bluey's Wild World, Disney Starlight, Toy Story Land and the Mexico pavilion's attractions are permanent and will still be there after the month ends. Disney notes that experiences and offerings are subject to change and some may only be offered for a limited time. The official hub at waltdisneyworld.com/puramagia and Disney's Hispanic Heritage Month page are the places to confirm details before a visit, and the Entertainment Schedule in My Disney Experience is the place to confirm a showtime on the day. Disney is collecting guest photos under #DisneyFamilia and #TogetherWeAreMagia.
