A maintenance closure lands in September

Disney has posted a temporary closure notice on the restaurant's page: Coral Reef goes down for planned maintenance on September 8, 2026, and is expected to reopen later in the year. No firmer return date has been given, which is worth factoring into any fall trip that was going to include a meal here.

Anyone holding a reservation past that date should check it. Anyone who wants to eat at Coral Reef before the work starts has roughly a month of dinner services left, and the dinner only schedule makes that window narrower than it sounds. Five hours a night, at a restaurant with a fixed number of aquarium facing tables, is not many seatings, so advance reservations are strongly recommended.

Florida coastal cooking on a seasonal menu

The kitchen works a Florida coastal angle, and the menu rotates with the season rather than staying fixed year round. Appetizers include the Lobster Bisque and Grilled Chicken Wings. Entrees have recently run to Grilled Snapper, Shrimp Fettuccine and Seafood Mac and Cheese, plus a Surf and Turf built on filet mignon and grilled shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes and a key lime chimichurri.

Not everything is seafood. The Mojo Chicken comes with Caribbean rice, black eyed peas and crispy garlic plantains, and the plant based option is the Coastal Palms Cakes, chickpea based crab cakes served with crispy hearts of palm and a corn salsa. Younger guests get their own choices, including grilled fish or chicken with a selection of sides.

Two desserts anchor the end of the meal: the Key West Sunset, a key lime tart with Chantilly cream and raspberries, and a Pineapple Coconut Bread Pudding with vanilla ice cream, warm rum caramel and shaved coconut. Because Disney rotates the list, it is worth checking the current menu before booking if one specific dish is the reason for the reservation.

Dinner runs from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Disney files the restaurant in its second price band, $15 to $34.99 per adult. That figure covers the average adult dinner entree and excludes alcohol, tax and gratuity, which puts Coral Reef in the middle of the EPCOT table service field rather than at the signature end of it.

Sharks, sea turtles and rays behind the glass

The reason to book Coral Reef over any other EPCOT table service restaurant is the wall. Floor to ceiling windows open onto the aquarium at The Seas with Nemo and Friends, one of the largest man made ocean environments anywhere, holding enough water to fill 54 Olympic sized swimming pools. No other restaurant at Walt Disney World looks into it. It is the same environment guests ride past on The Seas with Nemo and Friends next door, watched here from a much calmer seat.

Marine scientists designed the habitat for the roughly 2,000 sea creatures living in it, spanning more than 60 aquatic species. Sharks, sea turtles and rays all pass the glass during a normal dinner service, and the pace of the room tends to follow whatever is swimming by. It is also the rare park restaurant where the view holds a young child's attention longer than the food does.

Disney threads a conservation message through the pavilion, and the numbers behind it are real: coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor but shelter more than 25% of all ocean creatures, up to 2 million species. Disney scientists and conservationists work on shark, sea turtle and coral programs in Florida and elsewhere.

Reservations, admission and the cancellation policy

Coral Reef sits inside the park, so valid EPCOT admission is required, and a theme park reservation may be required depending on the ticket type. A dining reservation does not get anyone into EPCOT on its own, and Park Hopper availability can change day to day. A 5:00 PM table is worth nothing without a way through the gates that evening.

Disney asks for a confirmed dining reservation covering the total number of guests in the party, regardless of age. Advance reservations open on a rolling window ahead of arrival, so the earliest date a party can book depends on when the trip starts rather than on a fixed calendar date. Window tables are not assigned at booking either: parties set on the glass should ask for a window seat at check-in and be ready to wait a little longer for one.

The restaurant also carries a cancellation and modification policy: the card on the reservation is charged a per person fee for a no show, or for a cancellation or modification that falls outside the policy window. The exact terms appear when the booking is made and again in the confirmation email.

What this means for EPCOT diners

Two things are worth acting on. If Coral Reef is on the list for a trip between now and early September, book it, because a dinner only schedule and a hard closure date shrink the number of available seatings fast. If the trip falls later in the fall, treat the restaurant as unavailable until Disney confirms a reopening, and plan a backup in World Nature or World Showcase.

For anyone who does get a table before September 8, the rest of the pavilion is right outside the door. The Seas with Nemo and Friends attraction and Turtle Talk with Crush are both steps away, which makes an early dinner here a clean way to close a World Nature afternoon before EPCOT's nighttime show.
