Cool KIDS' SUMMER Makes Check-In Day Worth Arriving Early For at Walt Disney World
Four Walt Disney World resorts are running Cool KIDS' SUMMER through September 8, 2026, with hosted pool parties, a lobby library, pajama story time and kids-only pin trading boards. The bigger perk applies resort-wide: guests at any Disney Resort hotel get complimentary admission to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach on check-in day.

Check-in day at Walt Disney World usually gets written off as a travel day, but four Disney Resort hotels are running a summer program that gives families with young children something to do the moment they drop their bags. Cool KIDS' SUMMER covers Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort and Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside through September 8, 2026. The headline perk, a free water park ticket on arrival day, is open to guests at any Disney Resort hotel.

The free water park ticket is the reason to arrive early
Guests staying at any Disney Resort hotel get complimentary admission to one water park on check-in day, choosing between Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park. The offer is valid for arrivals May 26 through September 8, 2026.

That perk rewards an early arrival more than most Walt Disney World offers do. Rooms are typically not ready until mid-afternoon, so a family landing in Orlando in the morning has several hours to fill anyway. Both water parks pair slides with slower options like Typhoon Lagoon's surf pool and Blizzard Beach's Cross Country Creek, which makes them an easier first day than a full theme park after a flight.
What the four resorts are adding around the pool
The extras start at the front desk. Families checking in at one of the four participating resorts can pick up a Cool KIDS' SUMMER gift for each child, and Disney characters turn up in the lobby at times through the day.

Once rooms are ready, the pool decks take over. Recreation cast members host daily Cool KIDS' SUMMER pool parties built around interactive games and music. Standard resort recreation continues alongside them: lawn games such as cornhole and Giant Connect 4, evening campfires, Movies Under the Stars, and cast-led trivia and activities.

Port Orleans Riverside layers the summer program on top of recreation it already offers year round, including catch-and-release fishing along the Sassagoula River and surrey bike rentals along the resort's paths.

For the stretch of afternoon when small children are done with the pool, each participating resort has a Cool KIDS' SUMMER lobby library provided by Disney Publishing, stocked with titles featuring Disney Princesses, Super Heroes and other characters. The day closes with a pajama party: recreation cast members lead story time, then help families write a bedtime story of their own, and a character sometimes stops in.
Getting around the resort on day one

Complimentary transportation makes a first evening worth planning. From Port Orleans Riverside, the Sassagoula River Cruise runs to Disney Springs for shopping, dining and entertainment. From Art of Animation and Pop Century, the Disney Skyliner reaches Caribbean Beach in a few minutes, which puts Sebastian's Bistro within easy range for a sit-down dinner without a park ticket.
Two access rules are worth knowing. Guests boarding Disney Resort hotel buses, or the Sassagoula River Cruise from Disney Springs, are asked to show a valid resort room key or a dining or experience reservation for the resort they are visiting. A MagicBand or the My Disney Experience app also verifies a resort stay. Full route details are listed at disneyworld.disney.go.com.
Four resorts, four very different arrival days

Port Orleans Riverside is the quietest of the four. A one-mile jogging trail runs beneath the oaks along the Sassagoula, which is a reasonable way to stretch out after a travel morning.

Pop Century organizes itself by decade, with oversized yo-yos, Rubik's Cubes and other pop culture icons standing in for each era. Caribbean Beach takes the opposite approach with palms, white sand beaches and island-themed villages arranged around Barefoot Bay.

Art of Animation is the most literal of the group. Its courtyards recreate scenes from Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid at a scale small children react to immediately, with character sculptures that read as playground equipment even though they are set dressing.

The cast member layer
Much of what separates a Cool KIDS' SUMMER check-in from an ordinary one comes down to staffing. Recreation cast members run the pool parties, campfires and pajama parties. Merchandise cast members hand out pins from kids-only trading boards set up around the four resorts, which gives younger children a trading option that does not put them up against adult collectors.
Select quick-service restaurants at the four resorts also have dining assistants working breakfast and dinner during the program. Their job is the small stuff that slows a family down with a toddler in tow: an extra high chair, missing utensils, condiments, a quick hello at the table.
What this means for families
The practical read is that arrival day now has enough structure to justify booking an early flight. A family that lands in the morning can bank a free water park afternoon, hit a pool party, and still be back for story time before bed, all without touching a theme park ticket. Everything above expires September 8, 2026, and the water park perk requires an arrival on or after May 26, 2026. Details are at disneyworld.disney.go.com.
