California Grill's $99 Prix Fixe, Dish by Dish: A New Honeycomb Fizz, Wagyu Strip Loin and a Terrace Seat for Happily Ever After
Disney Parks Blog's Disney Eats writers walked through a full dinner at California Grill on the top floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort: the $99 three-course prix fixe, the $78 deluxe wine pairing, the Honeycomb Fizz cocktail added in June, four entrees and four desserts with their pairings, and the terrace policy that folds Happily Ever After into every reservation.

Disney Parks Blog's Disney Eats writers took a double date to California Grill on the top floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort and came back with a course-by-course account of the restaurant as it stands this September: the $99 three-course prix fixe, the cocktail list refreshed in June, the wine poured with every entree and dessert, and how the terrace handles Happily Ever After. Here is everything the post covered, with the prices and policies pulled out.

Check-in downstairs, then a private elevator to the top
The evening the blog describes began at the entrance of Disney's Contemporary Resort rather than at its front desk. Guests with a California Grill reservation take the escalator to the second floor to check in, and once the table is ready a host walks them to an elevator reserved for the restaurant. The doors open on the top floor to the room's wraparound view of Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom, with Cinderella Castle and Space Mountain framed in the windows.
California Grill opened in 1995 in the space that had been the Top of the World supper club, and it remains one of the resort's signature dining rooms. The writers, Laura and Rain, live in Orlando and made the point that a night like this is what a date night looks like for locals: dinner, then fireworks, without a park ticket.

How the $99 prix fixe is built
California Grill runs a fixed-price menu in the same format as Cinderella's Royal Table and Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom. Here it costs $99 per person and covers three courses: an appetizer from the section the menu calls Market Inspirations, a main from Chef's Journey, and a dessert from Sweet Creations.
The server, Jim, explained that the kitchen cooks California cuisine around fresh, seasonal ingredients and rewrites parts of the menu several times a year, which is why regulars find new dishes and drinks between visits. Outside the prix fixe there is a deluxe wine pairing, three enhancements (tiger prawns, lobster tail and scallops) and the signature cocktail list. The menu photographed on the table lists the deluxe wine pairing at $78.

Bread service and the two cocktails on the June menu
Warm onion-fennel focaccia arrives first, with extra virgin olive oil and salted butter, and the writers treated it as the tell for the rest of the meal.
The cocktail news is the Honeycomb Fizz, a new specialty drink that bartender Matt created for the refreshed menu released in June. It is Casamigos Blanco tequila, a house-made lemon-honey syrup and peach nectar, topped with Domaine Carneros Brut Rosé, and it comes in a coupe. Laura called it her new favourite cocktail at Disney for the balance of sweet and tart in the syrup.
Rain's pick was the Maple Bourbon Old-Fashioned: Redwood Empire Pipe Dream bourbon, vanilla maple syrup, Angostura bitters and Luxardo maraschino cherries with an orange twist. She described it as bold but smooth, with the smoky finish that suits a rainy evening in the window seats.

Appetizers: the ravioli everyone ordered, and a Hidden Mickey from the sushi bar
The Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli was the table's consensus starter. It is a long-running California Grill dish, served in a tomato-fennel broth that Daryon, Laura's husband, said gave the pasta more depth than he expected. The four appetizers the party tried:

- Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli: organic mixed mushroom ragoût, tomato-fennel broth, California extra virgin olive oil
- Seasonal Flatbread: a chef-inspired creation built on seasonal ingredients
- Surf & Turf Roll: wagyu beef, soft-shell crab, yuzu-avocado purée, soy gel
- Spicy Kazan Roll: blue crab, ebi shrimp, bay scallops, Fireball sauce
The sushi comes from lead sushi chef Jose, and the blog shared three things about his rolls. The team treats sushi as the first plate many guests see at dinner and builds each roll accordingly. Jose follows sushi trends from other countries to bring techniques back to the restaurant. And a Hidden Mickey sometimes turns up on the plate.
Four entrees and the wine poured with each
The party ordered one of each of four mains, from a plant-based pasta to steak, and let Jim choose the pairing for every plate.

| Entree | On the plate | Wine pairing |
|---|---|---|
| Pan-roasted Carrot Gnocchi | Toasted pistachios, agave-citrus-glazed baby carrots, pesto sauce, carrot hummus | Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County 2023 |
| Wagyu Strip Loin | Corn, beef tallow-herb fingerling potatoes, grilled green garlic, salsa macha | Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2023 |
| Seared Market Fish | Wax beans, ancient grains, English peas, Marcona almond, Meyer lemon-caper butter sauce | Trimbach Cuvée Frédéric Émile Riesling, Alsace 2019 |
| Cioppino | Black bass, clams, shrimp, calamari, mussels, crispy garlic chips, sourdough crouton | Nickel & Nickel Bear Track Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2023 |
The surprise of the round was the carrot gnocchi. Laura wrote that she did not know she liked carrots that much until this plate, and she is now lobbying the Disney Eats team for a Cooking Up the Magic recipe.
Happily Ever After from the terrace
When the sky darkens, diners start moving toward the restaurant's private outdoor viewing area, and the server invites tables to carry their wine outside. The show's soundtrack plays on the terrace, so the "Ready to begin" intro and the vocals from Jordan Fisher and Angie Keilhauer land at the same moment the first shells go up over Magic Kingdom. The show runs about 18 minutes, and the party returned to the table for dessert afterward.
The policy is worth knowing before booking: fireworks viewing is part of every California Grill dinner, weather permitting, and a table that finishes before showtime is welcome to come back to the restaurant to watch. Happily Ever After has been Magic Kingdom's nightly fireworks show since it returned in April 2023, and from the Contemporary the view runs across Seven Seas Lagoon with Space Mountain in the foreground.
Four desserts, each with a dessert wine
Rather than double up, the party ordered all four desserts and shared them. Each has its own dessert wine on the menu.

| Dessert | On the plate | Dessert wine |
|---|---|---|
| Celebration of Citrus | Meyer lemon, olive oil-poppy seed cake, blood orange gel, yuzu curd | Ruinart Champagne Blanc de Blancs |
| Blueberry-Goat Cheese Cheesecake | Blueberry meringue, vanilla Chantilly, raspberry coulis, goat cheese mousse | Dolce Late Harvest, Napa Valley 2021 |
| Flourless Chocolate-Espresso Cake (plant-based) | Spiced chocolate crémeux, ancho chile-caramel sauce, candied nut crumble | Inniskillin Icewine Vidal, Niagara Estate 2024 |
| Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée | Seasonal fruit | Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos Aszú 2018 |
The table split four ways. Laura took the Celebration of Citrus for its light lemon finish after a big meal, Daryon the cheesecake as the decadent option, Todd the chocolate-espresso cake for being rich without feeling heavy, and Rain the crème brûlée, which she cracked for the table.
The party's picks, course by course
- Daryon: Spicy Kazan Roll, Wagyu Strip Loin, Blueberry-Goat Cheese Cheesecake
- Laura: Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli, Pan-roasted Carrot Gnocchi, Celebration of Citrus
- Rain: Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli, Seared Market Fish, Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée
- Todd: Seasonal Flatbread, Cioppino, Flourless Chocolate-Espresso Cake

What this means for a Walt Disney World date night
The math is simple enough to run before booking. The prix fixe is $99, the deluxe pairing adds $78, and a cocktail sits on top of that, so a full evening lands near $200 per person before tax and gratuity. Disney World dining reservations open 60 days in advance, and resort guests can book up to 10 days beyond that for their stay, so a fireworks-timed table on a busy night is worth planning at the front of the window.
The timing tip the post leaves unsaid: check Magic Kingdom's fireworks time for the night you book, and aim to be through the entree course before it. Happily Ever After starts at different times through the year, and the terrace call comes whenever it does, whether or not the cioppino has arrived.
