Droid Depot Adds Interactive Batuu Adventure Buddies, With Hollywood Studios Next in Line
Disney is adding Batuu Adventure Buddies to Droid Depot, a line of three interactive Star Wars companions that starts with a motorized Ewok on August 13, 2026. The full collection reaches Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios at a later date, alongside the build-your-own droid workshop that has anchored the shop since 2019.
Droid Depot is about to sell something that is not a droid. Disney has announced Batuu Adventure Buddies, a line of three interactive Star Wars companions sold inside the workshop at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and the first of them is a motorized Ewok that reacts to taps, chatters in Ewokese and plays off the other toys around it. The Ewok goes on sale August 13, 2026 at Disneyland park, and the full collection reaches Droid Depot at Disney's Hollywood Studios at a later date.

What a Batuu Adventure Buddy actually does
The Ewok is the first of three toys in the line, and in the fiction of the land they were put together by a scrappy crew of Anzellan manufacturers. Each one has LCD eyes, motorized facial expressions and a sound set built around giggles, laughs and chatter. They also register each other, so an Ewok can interact with the droids sold elsewhere in the same shop.
The controls are physical rather than app driven. A single tap on the head, or a double tap on the belly, triggers a random response. Three quick taps on the head unlock two longer animations:
- Endor Dance Party: rhythmic eye animations with Ewokese chanting and drumming. Nearby Ewoks can join in.
- Forest Call Chain: a rapid double belly tap near other toys sets off a scout call, and nearby toys answer in their own languages.
The three gear sets
Three themed accessory packs are sold separately, and they are not just costume pieces. The food, tools and props clip into the toy's left hand and set off their own animations, sounds and reactions.
- Endor Gear Set: spear, horn, grilled fish and an Endor issue poncho
- Mandalore Gear Set: Mythosaur axe, Nummies, Beskar chest armor and a shoulder cape
- Batuu Gear Set: YT-1300 freighter model, All-Kit tool, ronto wrap and a Bantuuan poncho
Buying one works differently from grabbing a plush off a shelf. Guests go to a dedicated wall bay inside Droid Depot, where a cast member helps pick the character and the accessories, and the purchase ends with an activation moment that switches the toy on for the first time before you head back out into the land.
Building a droid is still the main event
Droid Depot opened with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios in August 2019, and the build bench is still what most guests come for. The room is deliberately cluttered: parts, chips, manuals and salvaged tech scattered across a workshop, with recognizable droids from across the films tucked into the shelves.
Guests check in with a cast member, take a blueprint and a metal basket, and choose one of four chassis:
- BB-Series: dome, dome connection plate, body sphere and motivator
- R-Series: dome, body, center leg and a set of R side legs
- C-Series: dome, body, center wheel and a set of C side legs
- A-LT-Series: dome, body and a set of A-LT side legs
From there it is a conveyor belt of parts in a range of colors. Only the designated builder is allowed to assemble the droid in the shop, so decide who is doing the work before you get to the belt. At the build station a cast member helps you put the droid together, detail it and switch it on, and an "Alert Tech" button calls for help once the finishing touches are done. Voice chips, accessories, droid-making kits, pre-made droids and premium droids are all sold afterward.
Where the toys work once you leave the shop
Both the droids and the new Adventure Buddies are built to respond to Black Spire Outpost itself. Carry one through the land and it reacts at specific spots, including Ronto Roasters and the area near the A-Wing, which is the reason these read as location-specific souvenirs rather than something you could order online.
Reservations are no longer required for the build experience at Disneyland park. At Disney's Hollywood Studios, availability still moves around, so check DisneyWorld.com for open dates before you count on it. The same site carries the instruction manuals and care information for the toys.
What this means for Hollywood Studios guests
The short version: nothing changes at Disney's Hollywood Studios yet. The Ewok is a Disneyland release first, the other two Adventure Buddies follow there, and only then does the full set reach Florida. If you have a Galaxy's Edge day booked this fall, the build bench is the thing to plan around, and the Adventure Buddies are worth watching for on a 2027 trip.
