Vacation Fun closes again October 28, a month after returning to the Mickey Shorts Theater
Vacation Fun: An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie will be temporarily closed at Disney's Hollywood Studios from October 28, according to Disney's attraction page, which says the film is planned to return later this year without naming a date. The Mickey Shorts Theater film only came back on September 27, after the room spent August and September handing out the Kermit Annual Passholder magnet, its second loan of 2026 after a May the 4th event.

Vacation Fun leaves again on October 28
Disney calls the closing temporary and plans to bring the film back before the year ends.
- Official notice. Disney posted the closing on the film's own page on the Walt Disney World website, the page that also carries its showtimes.
- No reason given. Disney has not said why the film is closing, or tied it to a giveaway or an event like the two that borrowed the room earlier this year.
- A short run. With showtimes back from September 27, the film's latest run lasts about a month.
When the film returned in late September, Disney had announced no plan for the room after it, which on this building's record was worth watching ahead of the holiday merchandise season. The October notice answers only half of that. The film leaves again, and Disney has not said whether anything else will use the room in the meantime.
Why the theater was dark in August and September
For most of August and September the theater was a passholder giveaway counter, the second time in 2026 the film gave up its room.
- Kermit magnet. The theater handed out the Kermit Annual Passholder magnet from August 11 through September 24, and Vacation Fun showings were suspended from early August to make room.
- Three-day turnaround. September 24 was the last day of magnet distribution and Vacation Fun's hours were listed again from September 27, so for three days the building did neither job.
- Spring loan. The film was also pulled in April and May so the room could run the May the 4th merchandise event, tied to the yearly Star Wars Day celebration.
The Mickey Shorts Theater has quietly become the park's most-used swing space. It is an air-conditioned room with a queue area, a set capacity and no ride system to shut down, which makes it the obvious venue whenever Disney needs somewhere indoors to hand things to guests in an orderly line.
What Vacation Fun shows inside the Mickey Shorts Theater
The short wraps never-before-seen animation around clips from Mickey's modern cartoons, inside a theater themed to the pair.
- The premise. Mickey and Minnie Mouse look back on their favorite vacation memories, which makes the film a story of its own rather than a compilation reel.
- Nine cartoon clips. It draws on Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg and Outback at Ya!
- The source series. All nine are episodes of the Mickey Mouse cartoon series Disney began releasing in 2013, a revival led by animator Paul Rudish.
- Borrowed art style. The building is styled after Mickey and Minnie in that series' flat, elastic look, with colorful architecture, framed movie posters and hidden surprises to spot.
- Photo stop after. After the show, guests step into life-sized recreations of Mickey's world to pose for a vacation photo.
The Mickey Shorts Theater opened in March 2020 in the park's Echo Lake area, and Vacation Fun has been its film ever since. The photo op outside, the oversized pair of Mickey's red shorts guests climb into, has probably been photographed more often than the film inside has been watched.
See it before October 28, because the return has no date
The film is one of the park's few walk-up, sit-down, air-conditioned stops, and fall visitors after October 28 may not get it.
- Check the showtimes. The attraction page lists the film's times, which is the place to confirm it is playing on your date.
- Standby only. It is a walk-in show with no Lightning Lane entrance, and the wait is usually the length of the showing already running.
- Thin park roster. Hollywood Studios has the thinnest attraction roster at Walt Disney World and the least slack when something goes offline.
- Long headline waits. The park's headline rides all carry long waits, which is what makes a short indoor show worth planning around.
Closures at Hollywood Studios draw attention out of proportion to their size for that reason. This one is the film's third extended break of 2026, after the May the 4th event in the spring and the passholder giveaway that ran from August 11 to September 24.
Our take. If the short is on your list, see it before October 28. A return planned for later this year gives no date to build a November or December trip around, so treat it as a bonus if it is back when you visit. Given the room's two event loans this year, watch whether this closing turns out to be a third ahead of the holiday merchandise season; Disney has not said so.
