Toy Story Land gets crayon-lettered solar trash cans at Hollywood Studios
Themed solar-powered trash cans now stand across most of Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios, in blue, green and yellow with handwritten-style WASTE and RECYCLE lettering. They join themed designs on Hollywood Boulevard and in Animation Courtyard as Disney rolls the compacting cans out across Walt Disney World.

Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios has its own solar-powered trash cans, in blue, green and yellow with lettering that looks written in crayon. They now stand across most of the land, part of a rollout of compacting smart cans across Walt Disney World that began in June.

Key Details
- Where: Most of Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios
- Look: Green top, blue body and a large yellow triangle
- Park-wide designs: At least four can styles now in use at Hollywood Studios
- Rollout plan: All four theme parks, both water parks and Disney Springs
The Buzz
Disney trash cans usually match the land they stand in, so fans track every new design, and the Toy Story Land version is the most colorful of the solar cans so far.
How the Toy Story Land cans are themed
The new cans borrow the hand-drawn look of the land's signs, so they read as part of Andy's backyard.
- Crayon lettering. White handwritten-style letters spell WASTE and RECYCLE, as if a child labeled the cans with a crayon.
- Matching the coaster. The nearby Slinky Dog Dash sign uses the same notebook paper and crayon style.
- Easy to spot. A pair stands beside the Slinky Dog Dash standby entrance, next to the stroller parking area.
- Same hardware. Like the other solar cans, each has a black opening marked with an icon and a foot pedal at the base.

What changed from the old Toy Story Land bins
The new cans keep the old colors but swap riveted metal for smooth panels and a slot-style opening.
- The old bins. The land's previous cans were boxy metal bins with rounded green tops and visible rivets, including a pair near Alien Swirling Saucers.
- Same palette. The green, blue and yellow colors and the diagonal color split carry over.
- New opening. A black mailbox-style slot with an icon replaces the round opening, and the foot pedal is new.
- Bigger labels. Large handwritten-style lettering replaces the small printed RECYCLE label.
- Smoother build. Smooth panels and black trim replace the riveted metal look.
The four trash can looks around Hollywood Studios
Toy Story Land's design is the most colorful of the can styles now in use across the park.
- Plain grey cans. Silver-grey cans with black trim and TRASH and RECYCLE labels are still the most common across the park.
- Hollywood Boulevard. Olive green cans with orange labels carry a round "Please Help Keep Our City Clean" medallion centered on the Chinese Theater facade, as the old bins did.
- Animation Courtyard. Cream-colored cans have dark green outlined labels reading WASTE PLEASE and RECYCLE PLEASE.
Solar cans are headed to every Walt Disney World park and Disney Springs
Disney confirmed in June that the compacting cans will reach every park, and several areas already have themed versions.
- How they work. Disney says the cans compact trash automatically and hold more than the bins they replace.
- Power supply. They run on solar power, with battery or plug-in backup.
- Sensors for custodial. Sensors alert custodial Cast Members when a can needs emptying, which Disney says frees time for other parts of the job.
- Themed so far. Themed cans have reached EPCOT's World Discovery, Test Track and the Asia section of Animal Kingdom.

Our take. Little changes for guests beyond the look and a foot pedal on each can. With the cans planned for EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, the water parks and Disney Springs too, more lands may end up with designs of their own.
