Disney Skyliner Closes for Refurbishment January 24–30, 2027, With Buses Covering the Gap
Walt Disney World's aerial gondola system will shut down for refurbishment from January 24 through January 30, 2027, with complimentary bus service replacing it. Here is what the closure means for guests at the four Skyliner resorts, plus the operating hours, transfer rules and Extended Evening Hours exception that govern the system the rest of the year.

The Disney Skyliner is coming down for a week. Walt Disney World's aerial gondola system will be closed for refurbishment from January 24 through January 30, 2027, with complimentary bus service running in its place for the four resort hotels and two theme parks the line normally connects.

A Seven-Day Closure in the Quietest Week of the Year
A full week of downtime is unusual for a system that has run continuously since it opened on September 29, 2019, apart from weather holds and short maintenance windows. Disney has picked its moment: late January is one of the softest stretches on the Walt Disney World calendar, after the holiday crowds leave and before Presidents' Day week arrives.
Buses will cover the gap, which matters more to some guests than others. If walking to a gondola station is the reason you booked Disney's Riviera Resort, that week you will be queueing at a bus stop instead — and a bus to EPCOT arrives at the main entrance near Spaceship Earth, not at the International Gateway the gondolas serve.
Three Routes That All Meet at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
The Skyliner is not one line but three, and all three touch Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. From that central station, one route runs to Disney's Hollywood Studios; a second to the International Gateway at EPCOT, stopping at Disney's Riviera Resort on the way; and a third to the station shared by Disney's Pop Century Resort and Disney's Art of Animation Resort.

The practical consequence: there is no direct gondola between EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Hopping between the two by Skyliner means riding into Caribbean Beach, crossing the platform and boarding the other line — quick, but a transfer, and on a busy evening a transfer with a queue at the end of it.
Skyliner Hours Follow the Parks, Not Your Resort
The gondolas begin turning one hour before Early Theme Park Entry starts at EPCOT or Disney's Hollywood Studios. Since early entry itself begins 30 minutes ahead of a park's posted opening, that puts the Skyliner in the air roughly 90 minutes before the gates officially open — enough time to be standing in the rope-drop crowd rather than watching one from a cabin. The system closes 90 minutes after EPCOT or Hollywood Studios closes.

One exception is worth writing down. On nights when EPCOT hosts Extended Evening Hours, the Skyliner closes one hour after the park closes, and during that final stretch it only carries guests from EPCOT's International Gateway to Disney's Riviera Resort. The route linking Caribbean Beach, Pop Century and Art of Animation is not running then, so guests at those three resorts should plan on a bus home.
The Four Resort Hotels on the Line
Disney's Riviera Resort is the Disney Deluxe Villa property on the system, opened in December 2019 and themed to the European Riviera. It is the only hotel with a station of its own on the EPCOT route.

Caribbean Beach, the moderate that wraps around Barefoot Bay, carries the hub station. Pop Century celebrates fads from the 1950s through the 1990s in oversized icons, and Art of Animation builds its family suites around The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Cars and The Little Mermaid — two Value resorts, which makes the Skyliner the cheapest walk-to-transit address at Walt Disney World.

A detail that surprises first-timers: the two share a single station, on the Pop Century side, reached from Art of Animation by the footbridge across Hourglass Lake — a pleasant walk in January and a longer one in August.

What the EPCOT International Gateway Station Puts You Next To
The Skyliner's EPCOT terminus is at the International Gateway, the back entrance that opens into World Showcase between the France and United Kingdom pavilions. Disney notes the station is a short stroll from Disney's BoardWalk entertainment district and from Disney's Yacht Club Resort, Disney's Beach Club Resort and Disney's BoardWalk Inn — which widens the gondolas' reach well past the four hotels on the cable. Ale & Compass Restaurant, the lighthouse-inspired New England spot at the Yacht Club, is a walk from the same station.

Closer to the cable, Topolino's Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera sits on the roof of Disney's Riviera Resort, serving French and Italian dishes with a view that takes in EPCOT and Hollywood Studios on a clear night.

Riding It: Themed Cabins, Ventilation and Weather Holds
Cabins hold up to 10 guests and never fully stop for standard boarding — the line slows through the station and cast members load parties on the move, which is why the queues clear faster than their length suggests. Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs are directed to a separate queue where a cabin can be stopped. The gondolas are ventilated rather than air-conditioned, and many are wrapped with Disney characters and figures from attractions and films.
The system's real limitation is weather: lightning in the area and high winds both stop it, and central Florida supplies plenty of both on a summer afternoon. Disney runs buses when that happens, but the switchover takes time — if you have a hard-timed dining reservation or a Lightning Lane return window at the other end, leave a cushion.

January 24–30, 2027: The Week to Book Around
If the Skyliner is why you are choosing Riviera, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century or Art of Animation, those seven days are the ones to move. The stay still works — the buses are complimentary and Disney is running them specifically to cover the closure — but the short glide to EPCOT's International Gateway that sells these four hotels will not be an option, and no replacement bus reaches that entrance. Check the operating calendar in My Disney Experience before a January 2027 trip either way.
