D23 has announced a 55th anniversary panel at Disney's Contemporary Resort on October 4, where Walt Disney Archives staff and the Imagineers working on Carousel of Progress will discuss the attraction's ongoing refurbishment. Tickets are $59, or $159 for VIP, and go on sale August 28.

Imagineers Will Reveal Carousel of Progress Refurbishment Details at a $59 D23 Panel on October 4

The Imagineers currently working on Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress will talk publicly about the attraction's ongoing refurbishment at a D23 panel this October, and say what is coming to it. D23 Spotlight Series: 55 Magical Years of Storytelling takes place at Disney's Contemporary Resort on Sunday, October 4, with tickets at $59 going on sale Friday, August 28.

The Buzz

Carousel of Progress is Walt Disney's own attraction and has been under refurbishment with almost nothing said about what is changing. A panel where the Imagineers doing the work will discuss the additions is the first concrete opportunity to find out, which is why the August 28 on-sale is being circled by Walt Disney World fans.

Key Details

Our rate tracking for August 2026 put the lowest nightly rate at Disney's Contemporary Resort at $425, across 70,146 priced room-nights.

The Carousel of Progress Segment Is the Reason to Go

The panel's centerpiece is a Walt Disney Archives journey through the history and storytelling evolution of the Carousel of Progress. Archivists and Imagineers will present discoveries and newly acquired items added to the Archives' collection during the attraction's ongoing refurbishment, the kind of material that only surfaces when a 60-year-old show building is opened up.

More consequentially, D23 says the Imagineers working on the newest additions to the Carousel of Progress will join to share their storytelling inspirations and "a bit of the magic to come." That is the first scheduled forum in which the people actually doing the work will discuss what is changing.

The stakes are unusually high for a Tomorrowland attraction with a modest hourly wait. Carousel of Progress is Walt Disney's own show, built for the 1964 New York World's Fair, moved to Magic Kingdom in 1975, and largely untouched since its last major update in the mid-1990s, a final scene whose "future" now sits decades in the past. Any change to it is treated by fans as a change to a historical document, which is why a panel of this kind is not a routine anniversary appearance.

Joe Rohde Opens the Evening

The event begins with a session featuring Disney Legend Joe Rohde, the former Imagineer best known as the creative force behind Disney's Animal Kingdom, who will reflect on storytelling and on highlights from his 40-year career with Walt Disney Imagineering. Rohde is also hosting a separate D23 lunch on October 2, so the Spotlight Series panel is his second appearance of that weekend.

The whole program sits under the banner of Walt Disney: 125 Years of Inspiration and the 55th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort, which falls on October 1, three days before the panel.

What the VIP Ticket Adds

The $159 VIP ticket buys more than earlier seating. After the panel, VIP holders get a dessert reception at the West Rotunda outside Disney's Contemporary Resort with two character meet-and-greet opportunities, a coupon package from select Disney Springs partners, and fireworks viewing from the resort at 9 p.m., which, from the Contemporary, means a clear line to Magic Kingdom.

Every attendee, VIP or not, receives a limited-release event pin featuring the classic Walt Disney World Resort logo.

Plan Around the 10 a.m. PT Sale and the Parking Rule

Two logistics matter. First, tickets go live Friday, August 28 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, and a 55th anniversary panel that promises unreleased Carousel of Progress information at a venue this size is not a leisurely purchase. Second, there is no on-site parking at the Contemporary for this event: guests are directed to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and take a bus or the monorail to the resort. Build in the transfer time. VIP check-in opens at 4:45 p.m. at the second-floor registration desk, and panel-only check-in at 5:15 p.m. What remains unknown is the substance itself: Disney has not said publicly what the new Carousel of Progress additions are, and October 4 is currently the date that changes.
