Typhoon Lagoon Closes Temporarily September 9, Leaving Blizzard Beach as Disney World's Only Water Park

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park closes temporarily starting September 9, 2026, leaving Blizzard Beach as the only Walt Disney World water park open and no reopening date announced. Disney's water park page also sets 1-day admission at $74 per adult, runs H2O Glow After Hours nights at Typhoon Lagoon through September 5, and lists Cool Kids' Summer character meets at both parks.

Typhoon Lagoon goes down on September 9

Disney has not published an end date for the closure. The notice calls it temporary and points guests to Blizzard Beach in the meantime, which is the same rotation Walt Disney World has used for years: one water park runs while the other sits out a stretch of the calendar for refurbishment work.

The practical effect is straightforward. From September 9, a water park day at Walt Disney World means Blizzard Beach. Tickets and ticket options that include water park admission still work, but the choice narrows to one park until Typhoon Lagoon comes back.

Anyone who wants a last run down Humunga Kowabunga, the Storm Slides or Crush 'n' Gusher has until September 8 to get it. Ketchakiddee Creek, the shallow play area built for the smallest guests, goes offline with everything else.

What Blizzard Beach still has

Blizzard Beach covers 66 acres and runs on a tall tale about a Florida ski resort that melted, leaving slalom runs and toboggan courses flowing with water instead of snow. Melt Away Bay sits at the bottom as the park's wave pool, and Summit Plummet drops straight off the top of Mount Gushmore.

It is a full day on its own. The problem is capacity: for several months it absorbs every guest who would otherwise have split between two parks, so arriving at opening will matter more than it usually does.

Cool Kids' Summer and the last H2O Glow nights

While both parks are open, Disney is running Cool Kids' Summer at each of them. Goofy meets guests at Blizzard Beach and Stitch appears at Typhoon Lagoon, with games and dance parties across the season.

Typhoon Lagoon also hosts Disney H2O Glow After Hours, a three-hour ticketed event on select evenings between June 2 and September 5, 2026, sold on lower waits for the park's headline slides after dark. The final scheduled night is September 5, four days before the closure begins, so the event ends with the park's current run.

What a water park day costs

A standalone visit runs through 1-Day Water Park Tickets, which come in two versions:

• 1-Day Water Park Ticket: $74 per adult, $68 per child ages 3 to 9
• 1-Day Water Park Ticket with blockout dates: $64 per adult, $58 per child ages 3 to 9

The blockout version saves $10 per person in exchange for a calendar restriction, so it only helps when the dates cooperate. A ticket is valid starting on the date selected as the start date and has to be used within a limited number of days depending on length and type.

Adding a water park to a theme park ticket

Two ticket options fold the water parks into a theme park stay. Park Hopper Plus adds admission to more than one theme park on the same day, plus a set number of visits to a list of extras. How many visits depends on how many ticket days were bought. The list:

• ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
• Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course
• FootGolf at Disney's Oak Trail
• Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course, one round starting before 4:00 PM
• Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course, one round starting before 4:00 PM

The Water Park and Sports option works on a different math. For each day of a theme park ticket it allows one theme park visit plus one admission to that same list of experiences.

The fine print rewards a read. Flexible-date tickets and options expire 14 days from first use. Tickets are nontransferable and exclude separately priced events. Tee times are required at Oak Trail and subject to availability, and FootGolf runs Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday after 2:30 PM. Disney also reserves the right to close a water park for extended rehabilitation or for seasonal, capacity and weather reasons, which is the clause the September closure sits under.

Know before you go

The dress code is stricter than most guests expect. Swim attire has to suit a family environment, and anything with buckles, rivets, zippers, exposed metal or other sharp objects is barred from the attractions. Jeans and wetsuits are not permitted on Bay Slides, Humunga Kowabunga, Ketchakiddee Creek or the Storm Slides at Typhoon Lagoon. Diaper-age children need plastic pants or swim diapers in pool areas.

Guests booked at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel and arriving in 2026 get water park admission on check-in day included with the stay, which is a good use of the hours before a room is ready. Those hotels also run air conditioned buses to and from the water parks with transfers at select locations. Luggage is not allowed on Walt Disney World buses, so bags go to Bell Services first.

Standard parking at Typhoon Lagoon is complimentary, and Car Locator in the My Disney Experience app saves the spot. Towels are complimentary as well: show a Key to the World card or MagicBand at Singapore Sal's or High 'N Dry Rentals at Typhoon Lagoon, or at Beach Haus or Snowless Joe's at Blizzard Beach. Life jackets are free for everyone and sit on self serve racks around Typhoon Lagoon.

Coolers are allowed, with a Cast Member inspection at the entrance. Loose ice, dry ice, glass and alcohol stay outside, though reusable ice packs are fine. Mobile food ordering runs through the app at Lottawatta Lodge and the Warming Hut at Blizzard Beach, and at Leaning Palms and Typhoon Tilly's at Typhoon Lagoon. Install the app before the trip rather than at the gate.

What this means for a fall trip

Anything booked after September 9 should be planned around Blizzard Beach and nothing else. That lands hardest on Park Hopper Plus and Water Park and Sports holders, who paid for a menu of options that just lost one, and on families with toddlers, since Ketchakiddee Creek closes with the rest of Typhoon Lagoon.
