Disney Springs Turned Six of Its 19 Christmas Trees Interactive for the 2023 Stroll

·

The 2023 Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll presented by AdventHealth put 19 decorated trees across the district and made six of them respond to a wave of a MagicBand+, a first for Disney Springs. A new “Wish” tree joined the lineup near the AMC Theater, and the Disney Vacation Club tree hid a model of the then-unopened Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness.

Six of the 19 Christmas trees on the 2023 Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll did something no tree in the district had done before: they answered a wave of the wrist. Disney turned a third of that year's lineup into MagicBand+ interactive props, and paired them with a new tree built around “Wish” that stood near the AMC Theater.

The “Wish” Tree Anchored the 2023 Lineup

The stroll's headline addition was a tree inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios' “Wish”, the film that had reached theatres a few weeks earlier. Instead of leaning on ornaments, its designers filled the branches with flowers, a nod to the story built around Asha. It stood near the AMC Theater, on the Town Center side of the district.

How MagicBand+ Made Six Disney Springs Trees Move

The “Wish” tree was also one of six the district made interactive — a first for Disney Springs. A guest wearing MagicBand+ made a single circular wave of the wrist in front of the tree, and the tree responded. At the “Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas” tree, that wave sent Zero flying around the topper and hung Jack Skellington-inspired ornaments off the branches.

That mattered more at Disney Springs than the gimmick sounds. MagicBand+ arrived at Walt Disney World in 2022 as a light-up, buzzing band that talks to things inside the theme parks — the Fab 50 statues, the Star Wars battles in Galaxy's Edge. Disney Springs has no attractions to wire it into, so the trees became the district's first real reason to wear one.

The six interactive trees were:

The Disney Vacation Club Tree Hid a Fort Wilderness Cabin

One tree rewarded a slow look more than the rest. The Disney Vacation Club tree was covered in red poinsettias and carried scenes from DVC destinations, the sort of thing that sends a member hunting for the resort they last stayed at. Tucked into the decorations was a model of The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, then still an unopened 2024 project. The rebuilt cabins did arrive the following year, which makes that ornament one of the few Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World that doubled as a construction preview.

All 19 Trees and the Map That Tracked Them

The trees were scattered across the district rather than gathered in one place, which is the whole point of calling it a stroll. Guests picked up a complimentary Christmas Tree Stroll map and filled in a circle at each tree; a completed map earned a surprise. It is a decent way to see corners of Disney Springs — the far end of the Marketplace, the quieter stretches of The Landing — that a dinner reservation alone never takes you to.

Disney's own rundown of the 2023 stroll named these themes:

That is 17 of the 19; Disney kept the last two for guests to find on foot. The company also published a matching game for anyone who wanted to test how well they knew the lineup before setting out.

Snow, Santa and Stilt Walkers in Town Center

The trees were the spine of the season, but they were not the only reason to walk over after dinner. Every night in December, starting at sundown, “snow” fell over Town Center — the soap-bubble kind Walt Disney World has used for years, and still one of the more disarming things to walk into on a mild Central Florida evening.

Santa held court at Once Upon a Toy in the Marketplace through December 24. There was no standby line to join: guests opened the My Disney Experience app, entered the virtual queue, and came back when it was called — the same mechanic Disney uses for its busiest attractions, applied to a photo op.

Roaming entertainment filled in the rest. A Santa Sleigh DJ worked the Marketplace, stilt walkers and a rollerblading duo covered Town Center, and a wandering tree circulated with enough personality to hold a conversation with guests who stopped it.

Free to Enter, Free to Park, and Back Every December

The stroll's real advantage over the holiday offerings inside the four theme parks is arithmetic: it costs nothing. Disney Springs charges no admission, requires no park reservation, and its Orange, Lime and Grapefruit garages park you for free. A family staying off-property, or one that has already burned its park days, can drive over, walk the full loop of trees in an evening, and leave without spending a dollar beyond dinner.

The Christmas Tree Stroll is an annual fixture at Disney Springs, and the film tie-ins get swapped to match whatever Disney has in theatres that year. What 2023 established is the part worth watching: once six trees proved they could answer a MagicBand+, the stroll stopped being purely something to look at. Each season's tree list and its interactive roster are published by Disney's own Disney Parks Blog ahead of the holidays.
