Imagineers launch Disney .YNSD, a lifestyle brand debuting at D23

Walt Disney Imagineering has created its own clothing label, Disney .YNSD, pronounced "yen-sid" after the sorcerer from Fantasia. The brand debuts at Mickey's of Glendale during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event with two collections, one built on modern essentials and photochromic ink, the other on the Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny.

Walt Disney Imagineering is putting its own name on a clothing label. Disney .YNSD is a new lifestyle brand created by a collective of Imagineers, and it makes its public debut at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where the first two collections go on sale at Mickey's of Glendale.

Imagineering starts a clothing label

The Disney Parks account on X announced the brand on July 21, calling Disney .YNSD "a new lifestyle brand created by Walt Disney Imagineering and coming to Mickey's of Glendale at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event." Disney describes it as the work of a group of Imagineers rather than a single designer, built on the same research and detail habits the division applies to attractions and hotels.

Disney frames the label as design-led rather than character-led. "This is not about placing a familiar graphic on a garment," the company says in its announcement, describing an approach that leans on materials, textures, silhouettes and construction details to carry a story instead of printing a well known face across the chest. The Disney Parks Blog post announcing the brand is credited to Walt Disney Imagineering's Zach Riddley.

What .YNSD stands for

The name is a puzzle rather than an acronym. Strip the vowels out of "Disney" and reverse what is left and you get YNSD, pronounced "yen-sid". That is also the name Disney gave the sorcerer who employs Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer's Apprentice segment of Fantasia, a piece of studio wordplay that has been in circulation since 1940. Yen Sid has since turned up in the Kingdom Hearts games and across Disney merchandise, so the reference is a familiar one for the collector audience the brand is aimed at.

Collection 1: essentials with the story buried in the build

The debut collection is the plainer of the two on first glance: clean silhouettes and modern basics across tees, crewnecks, outerwear and accessories. The detail work sits in tonal graphics, embroidered elements, custom trims and utility-inspired accents rather than in large printed artwork.

Two techniques stand out. Custom patches and specialty finishes appear across the range, and some pieces use photochromic inks, which stay invisible indoors and reveal a graphic once the garment is out in sunlight. Other references are worked into the construction of the garment instead of being placed on the surface, which means a shirt can read as a plain shirt in an office and as Imagineering merchandise on a park walkway.

Collection 2: the Haunted Mansion Parlor, translated into fabric

The second collection pulls from the Haunted Mansion Parlor, the lounge that operates aboard the Disney Treasure and, more recently, the Disney Destiny. Rather than lifting the lounge's most recognizable props, the designers went after its surfaces: Victorian textiles, layered patterns, ornate flourishes and the small motifs hidden around the room, reinterpreted across apparel, accessories and lifestyle pieces.

The centerpiece is a custom pattern that hides ghostly imagery inside floral arrangements and other quiet symbols, so the print rewards a second look. Disney says the collection is meant to keep giving up details the longer someone spends with it, which is the same trick the lounge itself plays on guests who sit down for a drink.

Where to buy it at D23

The launch point is Mickey's of Glendale, the Walt Disney Imagineering campus store named for the division's longtime home in Glendale, California. The shop normally serves Imagineers, and its D23 appearance is one of the few times the public can buy from it directly. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event runs August 14 to 16, 2026, across the Anaheim Convention Center and the Honda Center, with tickets starting at $49 through D23.com.

Disney .YNSD is not the only thing Mickey's of Glendale is bringing. The store has already revealed a Walt Disney Imagineering Color Block collection of apparel, pins, bags and accessories, including the return of the Sorcerer Mickey Big Face canvas bag and a mini canvas tote with an embroidered Imagineering logo. A Duffy and Friends assortment covering Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou, CookieAnn, 'Olu Mel and LinaBell followed, along with a Muppets Studio signature collection built around customizable denim jackets, pins and patches.

What Disney has not said

Several things remain open. Disney has not published prices for either .YNSD collection, has not named individual garments beyond the tees, crewnecks, outerwear and accessories categories, and has not said whether the brand continues after the event at Disney Store, on shopDisney or in park merchandise locations. The announcement describes D23 as the first opportunity to shop Collections 1 and 2, wording that leaves room for a wider release without promising one. Anything beyond that is speculation until Disney confirms it.

Why this matters for collectors

Imagineering merchandise has historically been an insider trade, sold on a campus most fans will never enter and resold at a premium afterward. A named brand with numbered collections is a different proposition: it implies a run of releases rather than a one-off drop, and it gives Imagineering a retail identity separate from the parks it builds. Whether that identity survives past a three day convention in Anaheim is the question worth watching in August.
