Disney Cruise Line ends its Alaska season with Coast Guard and student events in three ports
Crew members from the Disney Wonder closed Disney Cruise Line's 2026 Alaska season with three community events from September 24 to 26: a student career talk in Skagway, a Coast Guard families celebration with Captain Mickey Mouse in Juneau, and a maritime careers tour of the ship in Ketchikan. The line also recapped a season of local support and its Icy Strait Point access deal running through at least 2041.

Disney Cruise Line closed its 2026 Alaska season with three community events in three days. From September 24 to 26, crew members from the Disney Wonder met students in Skagway, celebrated Coast Guard families in Juneau and gave a maritime careers tour aboard the ship in Ketchikan.

Key Details
- When: September 24 to 26, 2026, at the end of the Alaska season

- Skagway (Sept. 24): Career conversation with Junior Achievement of Alaska students
- Juneau (Sept. 25): Coast Guard Families Appreciation Event with Armed Services YMCA of Alaska

- Icy Strait Point: Preferential access through at least 2041 under a 15-year agreement with Huna Totem Corporation
3 ports in 3 days
Disney Wonder crew members used the last days of the season to work with local groups in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan.
- Fleet order. The Disney Wonder is the 2nd ship Disney Cruise Line put into service, after the Disney Magic.
- The focus. The line framed the events as ongoing support for Southeast Alaska, aimed at military families, students curious about maritime work and opportunities for young Alaskans.
- Alaska's role. Beth Thibadoux, Director of External Affairs for Disney Cruise Line, called Alaska "an important and growing part of the Disney Cruise Line story."
Thibadoux said the communities the ships visit are one of the reasons a Disney cruise feels special, and that the line intends to keep deepening those relationships and supporting the local priorities of the towns that welcome it every season.
A celebration for Coast Guard families in Juneau
The Juneau stop put Coast Guard families at the center, with a celebration and new support for a Coast Guard summer program.
- Who it honored. The event recognized Coast Guard members and their families who serve Alaska and the U.S. Arctic.
- Crafts and Mickey. Families spent time together on themed activities and crafts, joined by Captain Mickey Mouse, the nautical version of Mickey that cruise guests know from the ships.
- Summer program support. The line announced an investment in the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation for Coastie Campers, the foundation's summer enrichment program, widening options for Coast Guard families in Alaska.

Sarah Riffer, Executive Director of Armed Services YMCA of Alaska, said military families "make tremendous sacrifices in service to Alaska and the country" and that the event gave them a chance to "simply come together, feel celebrated and enjoy time with one another."
Disney ties this kind of recognition to its own history. Founders Walt and Roy O. Disney both served their country during World War I, and the company traces its support for service members, veterans and their families back roughly 100 years.
Maritime careers on show in Skagway and Ketchikan
The student events tied the ships young Alaskans see every summer to jobs they could pursue themselves.
- Career paths shared. In Skagway, crew members walked students through their own career paths and described the range of jobs it takes to keep a cruise ship running.
- Many ways in. The aim was to show students that a maritime career can start from many different interests, skills and backgrounds.
- Dance group aboard. In Ketchikan, another group of Junior Achievement of Alaska students came aboard, joined by the Magsayawan Filipino Dance Group.
- Crew up close. The Ketchikan visitors met crew members and got a behind-the-scenes look at the people, skills and professions that keep the ship operating.
- Seeing it firsthand. Mackenzie Platschorre, Vice President of Secondary Programs for Junior Achievement of Alaska, said talking directly with the people who run the ships "is a completely different experience."

The student events opened the 3-day run in Skagway and closed it 2 days later in Ketchikan, with the Coast Guard celebration in Juneau in between.
Students watch the ships come and go all season, Platschorre said, and opportunities like this help them see the maritime industry "not just as something happening around them, but as a place where they can explore their interests" and picture where their choices today could lead.
A season of support across Southeast Alaska
The September events closed out a longer run of community work Disney Cruise Line did across Southeast Alaska in 2026.
- Weekend meals. The line supported the Southeast Alaska Food Bank, including its work providing weekend meals through Harborview Elementary School.
- Classroom warmers. Disney Cruise Line donated boot and glove warmers for Harborview classrooms.
- Books and programming. The line contributed Disney books and took part in intergenerational programming at the Ketchikan Pioneer Home.
- Summer campers aboard. The line welcomed Skagway Summer Camp participants aboard the Disney Wonder for the 4th year.
Icy Strait Point access runs through at least 2041
For guests, the news with the longest reach came earlier in the year: preferential access to Icy Strait Point through at least 2041.
- The port owner. Huna Totem Corporation, an Alaska Native corporation, owns Icy Strait Point.
- Where it is. Icy Strait Point sits just outside Hoonah.
- What guests get. The companies said the deal keeps the culture, wildlife and scenery of Southeast Alaska open to Disney guests.
- Local benefit. The companies said the deal also supports local jobs, businesses and tourism.
The 2041 date gives Disney a preferred place at Icy Strait Point for well over a decade, alongside the Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan calls where these events took place.
Our take. For anyone weighing a future Alaska sailing, that date is the concrete takeaway. Which ports a given sailing visits still depends on its itinerary, so check the port list on DisneyCruise.com before booking.
