Marvel Rivals Season 9: Jubilee Joins the Roster, Team-Ups Get Rebuilt, and Apocalypse Is Dead
Marvel Rivals Season 9 lands July 10 with Jubilee as the new hero, a ground-up rework of the Team-Up system, and significant changes to Black Widow. The season opens on a murder mystery: Apocalypse has been assassinated in Thebes, and a Death of Apocalypse mini-game asks players to find the killer. A 10-costume battle pass, new Twitch Drops, and the Season 9 Championship round out the update.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 arrives July 10 with a mutant firework show. Jubilee joins the roster, the Team-Up system gets a ground-up revamp, Black Widow is reworked, and the season's story opens on a whodunit: just as Apocalypse absorbed the faith of the gods in his bid for cosmic ascension, an assassin's blade pierced his chest. NetEase's update begins at 09:00 UTC with an estimated two hours of maintenance.

Jubilee brings the fireworks
Season 9's headline addition is Jubilee, the X-Men's mall-rat firecracker, bringing her explosive mutant energy to the roster. She arrives with her own lore entry, "Rise and Fall," alongside a new serial story called "The Mystery of Thebes" that drives the season's plot.
Team-Up system rebuilt, Black Widow reworked
The Team-Up system, the mechanic that gives paired heroes bonus abilities, is being revamped from the ground up. NetEase says a wave of brand-new Team-Up abilities is designed to shake up the meta, and the update adds new Team-Up voice lines and dynamic banter between heroes. Full mechanical details live on the game's official site.
Black Widow also gets a tactical tune-up, with significant adjustments to Natasha's abilities and overall gameplay loop. Between the rework and the new Team-Up pairings, expect the hero meta to look different by the weekend.
The Death of Apocalypse murder mystery
En Sabah Nur has fallen. Drawn by massive energy surges, the heroes arrive in Thebes only to be trapped inside the Collapsed Timeline by a mysterious energy barrier, where three more bizarre murders follow in rapid succession: a bloodless corpse, a surreal ink-wash illusion, and a vanished bullet. Each victim's cause of death matches a distinct wound on Apocalypse's body, and the killer is still among them.
Starting July 10, the "Death of Apocalypse" mini-game asks players to channel their inner detective, sift through the lies, and identify the culprit. Completing missions earns Units, Gallery Cards, and more.
A second season event, Resurrection of the Horsemen, promises that Apocalypse's Horsemen will ride again. Its mission track pays out Units, Chrono Tokens, a nameplate, and sprays.
Battle pass and store lineup
The Season 9 battle pass unlocks the secrets of En Sabah Nur's Faith-Harvesting Engine and carries 10 new costumes, including Deadpool's Dead Mummy, Elsa Bloodstone's Primal Predator, and Rocket Raccoon's Golden Artificer.
The in-game store refreshes at the same time, with everything below available from July 10 at 09:00 UTC:
- Rogue: Raider Prime Bundle
- Jubilee: Midnight Mutant Bundle, Cool Combustion, and an Emoji Bundle
- Wolverine: Bloodless Berserker Bundle
- Elsa Bloodstone: Primal Predator Chroma variants (Silver Stalker and Jade Jaguar) plus Ultimate Ability VFX
- Deadpool: Dead Mummy Ultimate Ability VFX
- A new accessory: the Shogo Bag
Deadpool also got distracted watching his favorite TV show about a certain villa and forgot to pick up his costumes, so the 616 Vault has been extended through July 17.
Twitch Drops, ranked rewards, and the Championship
A new round of Twitch Drops runs from July 10 at 12:00 UTC to August 7 at 09:00 UTC, featuring the Captain America Will of Galacta costume and related bundle content. On the ranked ladder, players who reach Gold or above earn the exclusive Jubilee Crimson Crown costume.
The Marvel Rivals Championship also returns for Season 9. Entering the Open Qualifiers guarantees a roster a hefty sum of Units and exclusive loot, and top Factions keep accumulating Champion Points toward the 2026 season. After 2026 concludes, the top performers from the Season 11 Championship and the Champion Points leaderboard advance to the Ignite Series 2026, where they will battle select pro-circuit teams for a starting spot in the 2027 Pro Circuit.
College Perk costumes rotate too, with the new set including Blade's Polarity Edge, Scarlet Witch's Phoenix Chaos, Emma Frost's Hellfire Protocol, Rogue's Savage South, Gambit's Thieves Guildmaster, Wolverine's Dog Brother X, Rocket Raccoon's Rocket of the Rafters, Winter Soldier's Blood Soldier, Adam Warlock's Immortal Avatar, and Peni Parker's Yatsukahagi.
Fixes: Loki's stiff neck is cured
The patch fixes an issue where Loki, after using his Ultimate to transform into Angela and triggering Assassin's Charge right as the transformation ended, would revert with a locked camera that could not rotate. As NetEase puts it, the God of Mischief needs to see every angle to achieve his glorious purpose.
What this means for players
Season 9 is a bigger swing than a typical mid-year update: a new hero, a rebuilt core system, and a rework of one of the original cast in the same patch. The murder-mystery framing gives lore fans something to chew on while the Team-Up overhaul reshuffles the competitive meta. NetEase says more surprises are coming over the course of the season; the update goes live July 10.
