Fans Lost It Over Scrat: Disney's 'Ice Age: Boiling Point' Teaser Heats Up the Herd's Return

Ice Age: Boiling Point just got its first look, and longtime fans of the prehistoric herd are already losing it over one returning face: Scrat. Disney has released a teaser trailer, poster, and first images for the sixth Ice Age film, which sends Manny, Diego, Sid, Buck, Ellie and the acorn-obsessed saber-toothed squirrel blasting out of a volcano and into a dinosaur-and-lava-filled Lost World.

The Buzz

What the Teaser Shows

The "explosive" first look picks up with the full herd in motion. Manny, voiced by Ray Romano; Diego, voiced by Denis Leary; Sid, voiced by John Leguizamo; Buck, voiced by Simon Pegg; and Ellie, voiced by Queen Latifah, are all back, alongside the possum brothers Crash and Eddie, Baby Scrat, and of course Scrat himself. The teaser hurls the group out of an erupting volcano and into a treacherous, never-before-seen stretch of the Lost World, trading the franchise's signature snow for molten lava and roaming dinosaurs.

The Franchise Under Disney and 20th Century

The Ice Age series first debuted way back in March 2002, and Boiling Point marks its sixth wooly outing. Production was officially announced by Disney and 20th Century Animation during D23 Brazil in 2024. Notably, it will be the first Ice Age film to reach theaters under Disney's ownership, following the company's 2019 purchase of 21st Century Fox's film and television assets and the subsequent shutdown of Blue Sky Studios in 2021. Blue Sky had been the animation house behind the original films, making this new chapter both a continuation and a fresh start for the herd under a new studio banner.

Cast and Release Details

Ice Age: Boiling Point is directed by John Donkin and produced by Lori Forte. Donkin previously directed The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, while Forte's producing credits stretch back across the franchise to the original Ice Age and Ice Age: Collision Course. With the original voice cast returning and a release date locked for February 5, 2027, the film aims to reunite audiences with the characters they grew up with.

Why Fans Are Buzzing

For a franchise that had drifted toward streaming-only shorts in recent years, a full theatrical sequel with the original cast intact is a major signal. The return of Scrat, in particular, has lit up the fan response, since the eternally acorn-chasing squirrel had seemingly been written off. With a lava-soaked Lost World setting, dinosaurs back in the mix, and a 2027 theatrical bow, Ice Age: Boiling Point is shaping up to be the herd's biggest comeback in years.
