Hong Kong Disneyland Debuts ‘Pixar Pals Spectacular’ Drone-and-Projection Nighttime Show

Hong Kong Disneyland has handed its evenings over to Pixar. The resort's first-ever Pixar Summer Fest introduces Pixar Pals Spectacular, an all-new nighttime show that turns the Castle of Magical Dreams and Main Street, U.S.A. into a moving canvas of drones, projection mapping and giant character inflatables. The roughly eight-minute production plays each night just before the park's Momentous nighttime spectacular, running through August 31, 2026.

Pixar Takes Over the Night Sky

Disney Parks spotlighted the show on X, teasing "drones to dazzling projections" and inviting fans to meet the team behind the production. Pixar Pals Spectacular is the marquee nighttime addition to Pixar Summer Fest, a season-long celebration that reaches across Hong Kong Disneyland's day-to-night lineup. Rather than a standalone fireworks display, the show layers drones, projection mapping, lasers, fountains, lighting effects, larger-than-life inflatable characters and original arrangements of Pixar music into a single, continuous burst of storytelling.

How the Show Unfolds

The performance opens with a nod to Pixar's own history, as a fleet of drones takes flight to recreate the studio's iconic Luxo Lamp and Ball against the night sky. From there, the drones morph through some of Pixar's most recognizable images — the floating balloon house from Up and memory-inspired imagery drawn from Inside Out among them — while projection mapping transforms the architecture of the Castle of Magical Dreams and the facades along Main Street, U.S.A.

The result is a celebration of friendship told through Pixar's deep bench of characters. Beloved faces from Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Cars, Finding Nemo, WALL·E and The Incredibles share the stage with newer stories such as Turning Red and Inside Out, and the show even folds in new friends from the upcoming Toy Story 5.

Disney's creative team framed the show as a story first and a technology showcase second. Producer Laetitia Lee said the production "began as a unified story — defining mood, scale, and emotional flow before any technology was selected," and pointed to the range of eras on display: "Seeing characters from Toy Story or Up coexist seamlessly with Turning Red and Inside Out creates a shared emotional experience."

Creative Director Christie Evangelisto tied that approach back to the studio's enduring appeal. "What makes Pixar storytelling so timeless is that it always speaks directly to the human experience," she said. Show Director Matt Coombes centered the production on a single through-line — friendship. "Friendship is a theme that runs throughout all our lives, from our very earliest memories through our formative years into adulthood," he said, adding that the team "leaned into the art of Pixar as our inspiration to allow us to transform the architecture in a fun and surprising way."

Pixar Pals Spectacular anchors the nighttime portion of Pixar Summer Fest, Hong Kong Disneyland's inaugural summer takeover built entirely around the studio. The festival launched on June 12, 2026 and continues through August 31, 2026, pairing daytime Pixar experiences with the new after-dark show. Because the roughly eight-minute production is staged immediately before Momentous, the resort's flagship nighttime spectacular, the two run back-to-back — effectively giving guests one continuous evening entertainment block at the castle.
