A New Villain Stalks Wonderland: 'Descendants: Wicked Wonderland' Sets July Premiere and Drops First Trailer

Disney has revealed the first teaser and a July 16 Disney Channel premiere (streaming July 17 on Disney+) for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the fifth film in the franchise. The trailer introduces a new villain, Maddox Hatter (Leonardo Nam), as Red and Chloe race to save the Queen of Hearts and Wonderland.

Disney has dropped the first teaser trailer for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and locked in a premiere date, sending the franchise's fans into a frenzy. The fifth film in the Descendants saga arrives July 16 on Disney Channel and streams the next day on Disney+ — and the first footage teases a brand-new villain pulling Red and Chloe back into Wonderland.

A New Villain Threatens Wonderland

According to the official logline, the stage is set for trouble. Now that the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora) is nice and Cinderella (Brandy) is safe, things seem perfect for Red (Kylie Cantrall) and Chloe (Malia Baker) — but changing the past created a new villain: Maddox Hatter (Leonardo Nam). When Maddox captures the Queen of Hearts, Red and Chloe must team with Red's new sister Pink (Liamani Segura), Luisa Madrigal's son Luis (Alexandro Byrd), Captain Hook's daughter Hazel (Kiara Romero), and Maddox's son Max (Brendon Tremblay) to save her and Wonderland.

The Cast and Creative Team

Returning cast members include Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother and Paolo Montalban as King Charming. New additions include Joel Oulette as Robbie Hood, Zavien Garrett as Felix Facilier, Ryan McEwen as Squirmy Smee, and Dayton Paradis as Squeaky Smee — while Awkwafina has been confirmed to voice Chessy the Cat.

Behind the camera, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is written by Tamara Chestna with Dan Frey and Ru Sommer, and directed by Kimmy Gatewood. Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh serve as executive producers, with Chestna and Gatewood co-executive producing and Emilio Dosal as choreographer.
