The dark side beckons. A new official trailer for Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord has arrived, with all the lightsaber clashing and Inquisitor fighting you can handle in a thrilling preview of the animated series coming to Disney+.

A Pulpy Adventure in the Shadow of the Empire

From the Lucasfilm Ltd emblem skewered on a laser sword to the fiery Maul - Shadow Lord logo, the trailer promises Imperial intrigue, underworld dealings, and explosive lightsaber duels. In the shadow of the Empire, Maul remains devoted to the darkness.

Inspired by unknown periods in Maul's history, series creator and Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni has crafted a story that follows the former Sith as he plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may be the apprentice he's been seeking.

New Key Art and Visual Style

In the latest poster art, the scowling visage of Maul is lit by an artistically ignited red lightsaber, encircled by Jedi, Inquisitors, and other characters who shape his journey. "I wanted the style to be a bit more aggressive, a bit more edgy, a bit more painterly than everything we had done," Filoni has said of the series' visual approach.

The Cast of Maul - Shadow Lord

The cast includes Sam Witwer as Maul, Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, recent Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Wagner Moura, Corey Stoll, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Lashana Lynch, Mena Massoud, Jason Isaacs, Phil LaMarr, and Jude Law.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is based on Star Wars and characters created by George Lucas. The executive producers are Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Athena Portillo, and Carrie Beck.

What This Means for Star Wars Fans

Maul has been one of the most compelling villains in the Star Wars saga since his debut in The Phantom Menace, and his expanded story through The Clone Wars and Rebels turned him into a fan favorite. Shadow Lord represents the next chapter for the character, giving him his own starring vehicle for the first time. The age of Maul begins with the first two episodes premiering April 6, 2026, exclusively on Disney+.
