SWTOR Game Update 7.9 'Legacy Reborn' Livestream Recap: Khar Shian Finale, PvP Season 10, and a First Look at 8.0
BioWare and Broadsword laid out a packed roadmap for Star Wars: The Old Republic — the Legacy of the Sith finale on Khar Shian with multi-character gameplay, PvP Season 10 'Honor in Battle,' Mandalorian-themed Cartel Market drops, returning companions Fen Zeil and Amity, and the first official tease of 8.0 with a level cap raise to 85 and a new Ryloth planet.
If you missed the Game Update 7.9 "Legacy Reborn" livestream, BioWare and Broadsword laid out a packed roadmap for Star Wars: The Old Republic — the finale of the Legacy of the Sith arc, a new multi-character gameplay perspective for the Khar Shian confrontation, PvP Season 10, returning Galactic Seasons content, and the first official tease of patch 8.0.
Active Twitch Drops on the Road to 7.9
Players still have time to grab the early reward: from now through May 14th, watching one hour of live SWTOR content on Twitch unlocks the Dantooine (Crash Site) Poster Decoration. Once 7.9 goes live, the drop expands — four hours of live Twitch viewing earns the Nightshade Hssiss Mount.
One important note for the international community: at 7.9 launch, French and German clients will play the new story content with English voices and subtitles in their respective native subtitle languages while localization continues.
The Legacy Reborn Storyline (Spoilers Ahead)
Picking up directly from Master's Enigma in 7.8.1, Darth Jadus has stolen Darth Nul's holocron — the key to her Force masterworks — with the help of a traitorous ally. He's en route to Khar Shian, where Heta Kol and the Hidden Chain await. The chase sets up the Legacy of the Sith finale.
The big mechanical surprise is that the Khar Shian finale lets players step into the boots of multiple characters during a single battle — BioWare cited fighting as Lana Beniko as one example. It's a notable departure from SWTOR's traditional "you are your character" structure and could open the door to similar setpieces in 8.0.
Quality of Life: Companion Terminal Retired, Dantooine Cleaned Up
Two big QoL passes drop alongside the story content:
- Companion Terminal: The terminal will be retired, with all narratively unavailable companions moved to a new "Ineligible for Story" tab so they remain usable in gameplay without breaking story canon.
- Dantooine Dynamic Encounters: The "Wreckage on Dantooine" intro mission gets cleaner onboarding (hazards explained, skip option for repeat plays, reduced requirements). The Orbital Core encounter will also be split off, letting players finish the story mission without defeating the final boss.
Full specifics will land with the 7.9 patch notes.
PvP Season 10: "Honor in Battle"
PvP Season 10 launches with 7.9 and runs for 16 weeks, packing one of the largest reward bundles SWTOR has shipped in a season:

Nar Shaddaa Nightlife and DirectX 12 Modernization
The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event returns June 30 for six weeks with two new themed decorations on the rewards list. On the technical side, BioWare also pointed players to its Spring Update on the ongoing DirectX 12 / Modernization work — visual upgrades, performance improvements, and infrastructure changes that have been rolling out for the last several years.
First Look at 8.0: The Next Era of SWTOR
The biggest long-term reveal: Game Update 8.0 kicks off the next era of The Old Republic's storyline, with confirmed features ranging from a level cap bump to a brand-new planet.

What This Means for SWTOR Players
For longtime players, 7.9 reads like a satisfying capstone — Legacy of the Sith finally wraps with a setpiece battle that experiments with multi-character control, while the modernization, QoL, and PvP track signal the team is investing in the systems around the story too. For lapsed players, the May 4th XP boost, Mandalorian-themed rewards, and the 8.0 Ryloth tease are about as good a hook as Broadsword has dangled in recent memory. The next livestream will be 8.0-only — that's the one to circle on the calendar.
