Start your engines. Sony's State of Play just dropped an exclusive new gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and one of the galaxy's most beloved podracer pilots is officially back in the cockpit. Developed by Fuse in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the high-speed adventure is gearing up for a launch later this year.

A Cinematic Look at the Galactic League

The new trailer finally shows the game in motion. Repulsorcraft racers tear across four distinct environments: the volcanic surface of Sentinel One, the familiar dunes of Jakku, the treacherous ice of Ando Prime, and the lush jungle of Lantaana — our very first look at that all-new planet. It's a major follow-up to the reveal trailer that accompanied the game's announcement at the 2025 Game Awards.

"Our goal with Galactic Racer is to deliver a racing experience that's cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars, and this gameplay reveal is a major step toward that vision." — Craig Derrick, Executive Producer, Lucasfilm Games

Meet Darius Pax, Shade, and the Galactic League

The story framework is classic Outer Rim pulp. The Galactic League is an unsanctioned racing circuit born in lawless space, run by the boisterous Darius Pax and dominated by the underhanded, well-connected Kestar Bool. Pax recruits a mysterious racer named Shade, whose grudge against the Bool family makes her the perfect partner to topple Kestar's reign. Players will pilot landspeeders, skim speeders, speeder bikes, and, of course, podracers, earning parts, tools, and upgrades along the way.

And yes, that really is the storied Toong podracer Ben Quadinaros lining up for a victory lap — a deep cut that will have The Phantom Menace fans grinning.

What This Means for Star Wars Fans

Star Wars racing games have a cult-classic pedigree thanks to the original Star Wars: Episode I Racer, and Galactic Racer is clearly aiming to be the long-awaited spiritual successor. Between the cinematic presentation, a story rooted in Outer Rim crime families, and a roster that mixes new faces with podracing legends, Fuse and Lucasfilm Games look poised to deliver the kind of arcade-y Star Wars racer fans have begged for since Dreamcast days. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is coming this year to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
