Marvel Rivals April 17 Balance Patch: Chain-CC Protection, Emma Frost Buff, and New Team-Ups

Marvel Rivals' latest balance update introduces a Chain-CC Protection system to prevent stun-lock combos, buffs Emma Frost and Adam Warlock, dials back Deadpool and Jeff the Land Shark, and adds a new Black Cat team-up ability.

Marvel Rivals April 17 Balance Patch: Chain-CC Protection, Emma Frost Buff, and New Team-Ups

Marvel Rivals is rolling out its April 17 balance patch with a major new anti-stun-lock mechanic, adjustments across all three hero roles, and a fresh team-up ability featuring Black Cat. The update targets several meta-defining heroes while giving others room to shine in Season 7.5.

Chain-CC Protection System

The headline addition is the Chain-CC Protection mechanic, building on the crowd-control safeguards introduced earlier in Season 7.5. The system activates when a hero accumulates 5.5 seconds of total CC duration or is hit by 6 CC effects within a 7-second window. Once triggered, the hero gains temporary protection from further crowd control — a direct response to frustrating stun-lock combos that have dominated recent competitive play.

Vanguard Changes

Emma Frost receives a buff, with a reduced energy cost on the White Queen's Ultimate to boost her suppression power on the battlefield. Deadpool (Vanguard) gets dialed back — his burst damage and the survivability gains from his gun-form Ultimate are both being reduced. Peni Parker's base survivability takes a slight hit, but her Cyber-Webs get improved deployment range and protection, along with better hit detection on her abilities.

Duelist Adjustments

Elsa Bloodstone's mobility and threat level against Vanguards are being reined in. Human Torch receives tweaks to his mobility mechanics — burst mobility goes up while his general movement speed becomes more directional, rewarding precise play. Winter Soldier loses some CC capability, which NetEase says was causing too much frustration for dive Vanguards, Duelists, and anchor Vanguards alike.

Strategist Updates

Adam Warlock gets a healing buff with increased cooldown reduction for Avatar Life Stream via Cosmic Cluster. Cloak & Dagger's Ultimate duration drops from 13 seconds to 11 seconds. Jeff the Land Shark's backline pressure is being toned down with adjustments to Joyful Splash. Luna Snow receives a small damage and healing increase on Light & Dark Ice (from 22 to 24). Ultron's Ultimate gets expanded battlefield coverage with adjusted logic for the four-drone deployment.

Key Balance Changes

Team-Up Ability Changes

The existing Guardian of the Deep team-up (Venom with Jeff the Land Shark or Hela) is being nerfed — Jeff's healing in the combo was deemed too powerful. Meanwhile, a brand-new team-up arrives: Lucky Loan pairs Black Cat as the anchor with White Fox or Captain America, combining a master thief, a mystical Kumiho, and the First Avenger into what NetEase calls "the ultimate heist crew."

What This Means for Marvel Rivals Players

The Chain-CC Protection system is the most impactful change here — it fundamentally limits how long any hero can be locked down, which should open up more aggressive playstyles without the risk of permanent stun chains. Emma Frost mains get a welcome buff, while Deadpool and Jeff players will need to adjust their approach. The new Black Cat team-up adds another strategic layer for squad composition. The patch goes live on April 17, 2026.
