Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine Kicks Off the Brutal March to 'Hulk War'

The march to Hulk War begins with blood. Spinning out of Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein's acclaimed Infernal Hulk run, Marvel will launch a series of brutal Infernal Hulk Vs. one-shots this fall — kicking off in September with Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1 — as the corrupted Hulk assembles an army of monstrous champions ahead of a 2027 crossover event.

Key Details

The March to Hulk War Runs Through Wolverine

In Johnson and Klein's run, the ancient evil known as the Eldest has taken over Hulk's body. Following Infernal Hulk (2025) #10 in August, the series transforms into a string of explosive one-shots that serve as the penultimate chapters of the Infernal Saga — each one a devastating victory that brings the Infernal Hulk one smash closer to remaking the Marvel Universe in his image.

The opening battle pits the Father of Horrors against the Marvel Universe's perfect killing machine. When the X-Men learn the location of mutants abducted and corrupted by Infernal Hulk, the deadliest among them vows to free them by the most violent means necessary.

"MARCH TO HULK WAR kicks off the final act of our story that Nic Klein and I started with Incredible Hulk #1 in 2023. It's a series of one-shot battles between Infernal Hulk and Earth's mightiest heroes, as Hulk gathers his terrifying Infernal Avengers for HULK WAR. The one-shots feature one of the most epic rivalries in comics, Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine, and an ending that I'm expecting to shock some people." — Phillip Kennedy Johnson

Johnson promises the team is leaning hard into horror. "There were discussions about how violent we could go with these one-shots," he said. "I want to keep ramping up the horror vibe of the Hulk series, and for our readers to see things in these one-shots they've never seen before." Editor Mark Paniccia calls it "an absolute knockout of a fight comic with unrelenting action, real emotional stakes," praising Scharf's art for making readers "literally feel each punch, kick, cut, slash and stab."

Variant Covers and the Battles Ahead

Beyond Klein's main cover, the debut issue ships with variant covers by Juan Ferreyra and Ryan Stegman. A handy Infernal Hulk Vs. checklist helps readers track the carnage to come across the fall lineup.

What This Means for Marvel Fans

For longtime Hulk readers, the Infernal Hulk Vs. one-shots are a deliberate slow burn — a victory-by-victory escalation that turns the Jade Giant from antihero into the Marvel Universe's most terrifying threat. With Hulk War looming in early 2027 and an ending Johnson teases will "shock some people," September's showdown with Wolverine is the place to jump in before the carnage spreads.
