Battlegrounds Season 39 Brings Back Attacker HP Scoring and a Saga-Bending Gladiator Circuit

Marvel Contest of Champions kicks off Battlegrounds Season 39 with the return of Attacker HP Remaining as a scoring metric and a disruptive new Saga Control buff that punishes non-Saga defenders. Reach the Gladiator Circuit and you'll earn the new 'Guardian Close One' emote plus five America Chavez Action Figures for the Saga store.

Battlegrounds Season 39 Brings Back Attacker HP Scoring and a Saga-Bending Gladiator Circuit

Battlegrounds Season 39 has gone live in Marvel Contest of Champions, and Kabam is shaking the competitive meta to its core with the return of a fan-favorite scoring metric and a brand-new buff built entirely around Saga-tagged champions.

Attacker HP Remaining Returns to Scoring

The headline change for Season 39 is the comeback of Attacker HP Remaining as a scoring metric. For the uninitiated, Battlegrounds is the game's premier 1v1 PvP mode, where two Summoners draft attackers and defenders and trade fights for points. Tying score to how much health your attacker walks away with rewards clean, skillful play — a sloppy clear that leaves your champion on the ropes simply won't bank as many points as a flawless one. Expect the top of the leaderboard to once again favor precise intercepts and well-timed evades over brute force.

Saga Control Reshapes the Gladiator Circuit

The biggest meta swing arrives in Weeks 3 and 4 of the Gladiator Circuit, where the new Saga Control buff takes over. Under Saga Control, every non-Saga champion placed on defense bleeds 5% of their health per second as direct damage — effectively forcing the endgame community to lean on Saga-tagged defenders. It's a deliberate nudge toward Kabam's newest roster grouping, and it means the deep defensive metas of previous seasons are about to look very different at the highest tiers.

Season 39 Rewards

Climbing all the way to the Gladiator Circuit (Vibranium 1) unlocks this season's Saga Chase Rewards: the brand-new “Guardian Close One” emote and five America Chavez Action Figures, the latter of which can be spent in the Saga store for special prizes. It's a clear thematic continuation of Kabam's push to make the Saga roster the centerpiece of late-season play.

What This Means for Summoners

Season 39 is a season for roster-deep players. The Attacker HP Remaining metric rewards mechanical mastery, while Saga Control all but mandates a stable of Saga-tagged defenders if you want to hold ground in the back half of the Gladiator Circuit. With the meta-defining buff change landing June 17, dedicated competitors have a clear window to rank up their Saga champions before the rules tilt the field. Good luck out there, Summoners — this one rewards both your skill and the breadth of your collection.
