A Name Rooted in Disney and Frontier History
The lounge takes its name from Sam McKim, a Disney Legend and concept artist whose work shaped the original Frontierland at Disneyland Park in the 1950s. Disney Imagineers drew on the tradition of mile houses — roadside lodging that offered rest and refuge to frontier travelers — to create the thematic framework for the space. According to its fictional backstory, the lounge is operated by the McKim family, a dynasty of hospitality pioneers from the American West.

Closer inspection of the space reveals references to other Frontierland icons: a room upstairs is designated as belonging to Barnabas T. Bullion, the fictional founder of the Big Thunder Mining Company, while another is labeled for M. Davis — a nod to Disney Legend Marc Davis. Although the upper floor is not accessible to guests, these Imagineering details are visible from the seating area, and original artwork from Sam McKim himself may be spotted throughout.

Amenities and Interior Design
The interior echoes a 19th-century frontier homestead, with wood floors, a hand-carved stone fireplace, and storytelling details throughout — including children's drawings attributed to the fictional McKim family. A nod to DVC's own history appears in the phrase "The Frontier's Best Kept Secret," a riff on the program's former slogan "Discover the best kept Disney secret." Guests can settle into comfortable sofas and chairs, enjoy complimentary soft drinks, and use free Wi-Fi and phone charging stations.

McKim's Mile House is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET and is available to all eligible DVC members with valid park tickets and a Magic Kingdom Park reservation.
