Asteria: Storyliving by Disney Announces Second Community in North Carolina

Disney has unveiled Asteria, a new Storyliving by Disney residential community planned for Chatham County, North Carolina, near Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The second announced community under the Storyliving by Disney brand, Asteria is conceived as a campus of discovery spanning approximately 1,500 acres, inspired by Walt Disney's passion for curiosity and lifelong learning. Home sales are anticipated to begin by 2027, with more than 4,000 planned residential units including single-family and multi-family homes.

Asteria, a new Storyliving by Disney residential community, has been announced for Chatham County, North Carolina, near the thriving Research Triangle cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The community — the second announced under the Storyliving by Disney brand, following Cotino in Rancho Mirage, California — will span approximately 1,500 acres and is envisioned as a campus of discovery rooted in Walt Disney's lifelong passion for curiosity and learning.

A Community Inspired by the Spirit of Discovery

The Storyliving by Disney team worked alongside Disney Imagineers and DMB Development to shape a vision for Asteria grounded in Walt Disney's own philosophy. Walt once said, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." That same spirit of forward movement and wonder forms the conceptual foundation of the community.

Influenced by the nearby universities of North Carolina's renowned Research Triangle, Asteria is envisioned as a campus of discovery — a place where residents can learn, grow, and bring a touch of Disney magic into their everyday lives in a way that only a Storyliving by Disney community can provide. The community's very name pays homage to the native North Carolina aster flower and the Greek goddess Asteria, whose tears of stardust are said to have sprouted the first asters — chosen by Disney Imagineers to honor North Carolina's natural beauty from the earth to the sky.

Celebrating the Beauty of North Carolina

North Carolina's rich landscape and history are central to Imagineering's initial planning work for Asteria. The design vision emphasizes spaces where nature is always on display, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. The community is planned to include acres of neighborhood parks and miles of walking and biking trails, encouraging residents to explore and connect with the area's native flora and fauna.

Asteria will be situated on approximately 1,500 acres in picturesque Chatham County, just outside Raleigh — and will form part of the larger, award-winning Chatham Park master-planned community. Its location near Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham offers future residents access to big-city amenities alongside the charm of the small town of Pittsboro.

Club Amenities Designed to Spark Curiosity

Asteria community homeowners will join a club with amenities and programming specifically designed to encourage learning and connectivity. Planned club features include:

Home Styles and Community Design

The Asteria community will offer more than 4,000 residential units across a range of home styles — including single-family and multi-family homes — with some home sites specifically designated for adults 55+. Disney Imagineers are pulling from North Carolina's regional character to imagine streets, parks, and community amenities that showcase the surrounding natural beauty. Homes will be built by select homebuilders, with sales anticipated to begin by 2027.
