Disney Honors Multi-Generational Cast Member Families This Mother's Day

Disney is spotlighting two multi-generational cast member families this Mother's Day: Connie, a 35-year Walt Disney World veteran whose son Matthew and daughter Aiyana now work alongside her, and Jenny Sweetman, who joined Disneyland Resort in 1983 and inspired all three of her daughters to build their own Disney careers. Both families demonstrate how Disney's education programs, including Disney Aspire, help create pathways from one generation to the next.

Disney Honors Multi-Generational Cast Member Families This Mother's Day

This Mother's Day, Disney is celebrating the women whose careers at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort created pathways for their own children to follow. Two families — the Connie family at Walt Disney World and the Sweetman family at Disneyland Resort — illustrate how decades of dedication can shape not only a personal career, but an entire family legacy inside the same company.

Connie's 35-Year Journey at Walt Disney World

Connie joined Walt Disney World at age 16 while still in high school. What began as an after-school job became the foundation of a career spanning more than 35 years. She worked across parks and resorts before moving into Workforce Management in 2005, where she has since supported thousands of cast members behind the scenes.

While building that career, Connie raised two children on her own, with Disney parks, water parks, and cruise vacations forming the backdrop of their childhood. Her children grew up watching their mother advance through the company with pride and purpose.

Today, the connection has come full circle. Connie's son, Matthew, works in food and beverage at Disney's Port Orleans Resort, pursuing his passion for pastry and culinary arts through Valencia College via Disney Aspire. Her daughter, Aiyana, recently joined Walt Disney World and is studying business administration through the same program, with aspirations toward a future leadership role.

“Growing up, I always saw how much my mom cared about what she did,” Matthew said. “Watching her build a career here at Disney made me want to find something I’m passionate about too, and Disney has given me the chance to do that.”

“Watching my mom build her career has really inspired me,” Aiyana said. “It pushes me to work hard, keep learning, and believe that one day I can build something just as meaningful.”

“One of my proudest moments has been seeing my kids find their own paths here,” Connie said. “Disney has supported me through every stage of my life, and now I get to see that same support extended to my children.”

Jenny Sweetman: Four Decades at Disneyland Resort, Three Daughters Who Followed

Jenny Sweetman joined Disneyland Resort in 1983, beginning as a hostess in New Orleans Square. Over the next four decades, she built experience across nearly every corner of the resort, balancing leadership roles with raising three daughters who grew up watching their mother show up every day with pride, care, and commitment.

“As kids, we didn’t always understand what our mom did,” said her daughter Jessica. “We just knew she worked at Disneyland, and that meant something. We saw how much she loved what she did, and how much she cared about the people she worked with.”

Jenny modeled what meaningful, people-centered leadership looked like without prescribing a specific path. “I just wanted them to know they could do anything,” she said. “Disney gave me the space to grow, and I wanted them to feel that same kind of possibilities for themselves.”

Kellie was the first to follow, joining Disneyland Resort in 2011 and eventually advancing into safety-focused operational leadership while pursuing higher education through Disney's educational support program. Andie joined next, starting in retail before pursuing a degree in Hospitality Management and exploring creative roles across the resort. Jessica rounded out the trio by hiring into Disneyland Resort nearly 30 years to the day after her mother's first shift — in the same land where Jenny's journey began. She later earned her MBA through Disney Aspire and now works in resort communications, telling cast stories across the property.

Why This Matters for Disney's Cast Culture

The stories of Connie and Jenny Sweetman illustrate a pattern that runs throughout Disney's workforce: cast members who build long careers often inspire the next generation to do the same. With an average tenure of 12 years — triple the national average — and education support tools like Disney Aspire that eliminate tuition barriers, Disney has structured itself to be a place where families can grow together, both personally and professionally. These Mother's Day stories are a reminder that the culture behind the parks is as deliberate as the experiences in front of them.
