D23 2022: Disney Treasure Revealed, Lighthouse Point Detailed, Australia Sailings Announced

At D23 Expo 2022, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D'Amaro unveiled three major Disney Cruise Line announcements: the name and adventure theme of the fleet's sixth ship, the Disney Treasure; concept art for a second private island destination at Lighthouse Point on Eleuthera in the Bahamas; and the debut of Disney cruising in Australia and New Zealand. Taken together, the announcements represent the most ambitious expansion in the line's history.

Key Details

Introducing the Disney Treasure: An Adventure-Themed Ship

The sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet will be named the Disney Treasure, and it marks a distinct creative departure from previous vessels. Where other ships drew on fairy tales and fantasy, the Disney Treasure is built around the theme of adventure — inspired by Walt Disney's own love of exploration. The design concept promises experiences that immerse guests in some of the company's most legendary stories.

The Grand Hall: A Gilded Palace Inspired by Aladdin

The Disney Treasure's Grand Hall will draw on real-world influences from Asia and Africa, evoking the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace. The design pays direct homage to the far-off land of Agrabah from Walt Disney Animation Studios' classic film Aladdin. The ship's signature atrium statue — a Disney Cruise Line tradition — will depict Aladdin, Jasmine, and Magic Carpet soaring together.

The Disney Treasure is scheduled for delivery in 2024. It is the second of three new Wish-class ships planned through 2025. Like the Disney Wish before it, the Treasure will be powered by liquefied natural gas and feature 1,254 guest staterooms.

Lighthouse Point: A Second Private Island in the Bahamas

Disney also revealed concept art and new details for its second Bahamian island destination: Lighthouse Point, located on the island of Eleuthera. The development has been shaped in close collaboration with Bahamian artists and advisors, with the goal of creating a destination that authentically reflects the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Bahamas through Disney's storytelling lens.

Amenities will include pristine beaches, a recreation center, dining, shopping, a water playground, and a dedicated cultural pavilion where guests can engage with traditions passed down through generations of local residents.

Disney's environmental commitments for the site are substantial: less than 20 percent of the property will be developed; 90 percent of the site's power will come from solar energy; sustainable building practices will be employed throughout; and more than 190 acres of privately owned land will be donated to the Bahamian government. Environmental management programs are already in place.

Disney Cruise Line Comes to Australia and New Zealand

For the first time, Disney Cruise Line will bring Disney vacations to guests in Australia and New Zealand through "Disney Magic at Sea" sailings beginning in late October 2023. These limited-time voyages are designed specifically for local guests and will feature immersive Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars experiences throughout each cruise — with the ship itself serving as the primary destination.

Additionally, the Disney Wonder will operate the fleet's first-ever South Pacific itineraries during repositioning voyages between Honolulu and Sydney in October 2023 and February 2024, with stops at Fiji and Samoa.

What This Means for Disney Cruise Fans

The D23 2022 announcements signal a period of sustained growth for Disney Cruise Line — new ships, new ports, and entirely new markets. Fans in Australia and New Zealand finally have a Disney cruise option built for them, while travelers globally can look forward to the Disney Treasure's adventure-themed experiences and a second private island destination in the Bahamas.
