Maiden Voyage: The Disney Destiny Sets Sail
After nearly a year of construction progress documented in Disney Cruise Line's ship's log, the Disney Destiny completed its maiden voyage on November 20, 2025, welcoming its first guests aboard from Fort Lauderdale. The ship offers one-of-a-kind venues, extraordinary entertainment, and world-class dining experiences — all under the Heroes and Villains theme that defines the vessel's identity from bow to stern.

Susan Egan Named Godparent
In keeping with maritime tradition, Disney Cruise Line named actress Susan Egan as the godparent of the Disney Destiny. Egan is best known as the original voice of Megara in Disney's animated Hercules and as Belle in the original Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, giving her deep ties to two of the stories represented aboard the ship.
As guests sail the Disney Destiny, they will find several venues connected to stories Susan Egan has brought to life. The ship includes entertainment and dining references to both Hercules and Beauty and the Beast, with adult guests able to enjoy themed lounge experiences inspired by these films.

Homecoming at Port Canaveral
Port Canaveral was filled with excitement when the Disney Destiny arrived following its transatlantic crossing of more than 5,000 nautical miles from Eemshaven, Netherlands. Shoreside, a gathering of dedicated Disney cast members and teams from across the company cheered as the ship approached the port, with shouts echoing between the decks and the shore.

The arrival celebration included a special preview of a Disney Destiny-exclusive experience. Disney Cruise Line also announced the "Discover Your Destiny" initiative to further commemorate the ship's launch — a campaign designed to mirror the Heroes and Villains spirit at the heart of the vessel.

Broadway-Style Entertainment: "Disney Hercules" Takes the Stage
The brand-new Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Disney Destiny is home to "Disney Hercules," an all-new Broadway-style production developed exclusively for the ship. Cast members began rehearsals earlier in 2025, spending 11 weeks at Disney Cruise Line's entertainment training facility in Florida before traveling to Germany to begin live rehearsals aboard the ship.

The show's soundtrack was developed with a small group of singers from Orlando, Florida, who joined a 17-voice choir to record more than 50 hours of material for the 55-minute production. "Disney Hercules" features contemporary choreography and elaborate costumes, with the cast performing everything from "Zero to Hero" to iconic hero-and-villain confrontations.

Grand Hall Entertainment: Zayah and Gamble
Beyond the Walt Disney Theatre, the Grand Hall of the Disney Destiny serves as a central entertainment hub. The space hosts "So You Think You're Smarter Than a Disney Cruise Line Kid?" and other all-new offerings. The Grand Hall's hosts are Zayah and Gamble, an original duo created for the ship, who lead immersive storytelling experiences throughout each sailing.

Cask & Cannon: A Pirate's Tavern at Sea
Adults aboard the Disney Destiny can step into Cask & Cannon, a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed pub that recreates the feel of a true pirate's tavern. The venue features wooden planks evoking a pirate ship's interior, intricate carvings, and clever nods to the beloved film series — including stacked barrels and hidden details for eagle-eyed fans.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean attraction artwork has been specially modified for the venue with new additions. The ceiling and floor both reward those who take time to look up and down while exploring every design gem. A dedicated Pirates of the Caribbean merchandise collection is also available aboard the Disney Destiny, featuring exclusive bar tools and novelty drinkware inspired by the franchise.
De Vil's: A Villainous Lounge Experience
For guests who prefer their evenings with a side of wickedness, De Vil's is the ship's villain-themed adult lounge inspired by Cruella de Vil. A marquee spells out "De Vil's" in letters designed to evoke the character's iconic style. Inside, every detail reflects Cruella's flair for fashion and theatrics, with an eye-catching spotted piano serving as the focal point of the room. Cruella herself makes special appearances at the piano during select evenings.

Disney's Oceaneer Club: Vanellope's Glitch Gulch
Young cruisers aboard the Disney Destiny will find Vanellope's Glitch Gulch waiting for them inside Disney's Oceaneer Club. The space is themed to the world of Wreck-It Ralph, with life-size statues of Vanellope von Schweetz and Wreck-It Ralph created by Walt Disney Imagineering anchoring the room. Imagineer Meg Tracy helped develop the statues, which bring the beloved characters to a new scale for guests to interact with.

Black Panther Waterfall Atrium: A First for Disney Cruise Line
For the first time in Disney Cruise Line history, a Marvel Super Hero serves as the focal point of a ship's signature character waterfall statue. The Disney Destiny's atrium features a stunning Black Panther-inspired sculpture developed by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with Marvel Studios. The statue anchors a Wakanda-inspired space that serves as the ship's central gathering point.

Staterooms and Edna Mode's Sweet Shop
The Disney Destiny's staterooms feature Heroes and Villains-inspired designs woven into the decor. Two Edna Mode statues — developed by Walt Disney Imagineering in partnership with Pixar Animation Studios — anchor the ship's sweet shop, taking their cue from the "Auntie Edna" short film. The sculptures showcase Edna Mode in playful, larger-than-life form.

Spider-Man Stern Art and External Design
The Disney Destiny's stern features Spider-Man swooping into action alongside three Spider-Bots — marking a significant Marvel presence on the ship's exterior. When guests arrive at the home port in Fort Lauderdale, the stern art is one of the first distinctive design elements visible as the ship approaches. The ship's hull and keel art were painted by dedicated teams at the Meyer Werft yard, with the elegant hand-painted filigree continuing a longstanding Disney Cruise Line tradition.

Construction Milestones at Meyer Werft
The Disney Destiny passed through several major milestones during its build at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. A float-out ceremony marked the first time the ship left the construction hall and entered the water, with the vessel docking outside Meyer Werft while work continued on the upper decks. A steel-cutting ceremony was also held with special guest Captain Mickey Mouse in attendance.

The ship then undertook conveyance — traveling approximately 20 miles down the Ems River — before its transatlantic crossing to Florida. The official ship delivery ceremony saw Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences, accept the ship from the yard, bringing the Disney Destiny one step closer to its maiden voyage.

Prideland Costumes and Behind-the-Scenes Design
Disney Live Entertainment's Costume Design & Development team created the costumes for Pridelands, the Lion King-inspired show aboard the Disney Destiny. Associate Costume Designer Amanda Avila led the design process, with costumes playing a central role in retelling Simba's story through live performance. The Disney Destiny's playlist — curated with hits from The Lion King — was made available on Spotify ahead of the maiden voyage.

Interior Design: Artists Behind the Details
Walt Disney Imagineers Beth Burkhardt and Rachel Willcoxon oversaw the review of interior design selections aboard the Disney Destiny, from barstool and lounge chair fabrics to accent wall tiles. Artist Hannah Loflin contributed a wicked still life collection for villain-themed spaces aboard the ship, turning her childhood passion for Disney animated films into detailed works that line the vessel's interior.

What This Means for Cruise Fans
The Disney Destiny represents Disney Cruise Line's most Marvel-forward ship yet, combining a Black Panther atrium, Spider-Man exterior art, Cruella de Vil's lounge, and an original Broadway-style Hercules show into a single vessel sailing from Fort Lauderdale. For guests interested in Heroes and Villains storytelling at sea, the ship delivers an experience unlike anything else in the fleet.
