Disney Destiny: Inside the New Shows, Dining, and Experiences Aboard the Heroes and Villains Ship
Disney Cruise Line's newest ship, the Disney Destiny, opens its maiden voyage on November 20 with an unprecedented heroes-and-villains theme running throughout every deck. From a brand-new stage production of Disney Hercules featuring unreleased music and life-size puppets to the Cruella de Vil-inspired De Vil's Piano Lounge and a Lion King dining spectacle, the ship's lineup is one of the most ambitious in Disney Cruise Line history. Here is a detailed look at what awaits guests on board.

The Disney Destiny—Disney Cruise Line's newest ship—is built around a heroes-and-villains duality that permeates every venue, stateroom, and experience on board. The ship's maiden voyage is set for November 20, and ahead of that debut, a media showcase previewed an extraordinary slate of entertainment, dining, and design highlights. Walt Disney Imagineering has, according to Disney Signature Experiences VP Yolanda Cade, “from bow to stern infused it with all of the great inspiration from our greatest heroes and our greatest villains.”

Entertainment: A New Disney Hercules Stage Show
The flagship theatrical production aboard the Disney Destiny is an all-new stage adaptation of Disney Hercules, performed in the Walt Disney Theater. Show Director Kevin Wilson described the production as faithful to the film but updated: “The music, we were able to make it a little more pop, contemporary.” The show retains all the classic characters and songs from the 1997 Walt Disney Animation Studios film while adding a brand-new track, “Shooting Star,” a song originally composed for the film but never released—making this stage production its world premiere.
The set design juxtaposes modern architectural aesthetics with traditional Grecian elements, including pillars, a gazebo, and staircases flanking both sides of the stage to propel scene transitions. Executive Creative Director Michael Serna described the balance: “We really want elements in the show to feel fresh and new but still have the heart and soul of the story.” Costumes lean toward couture fashion, with gods and goddesses wearing elaborate headpieces and dramatic draping, while even ensemble townspeople carry a “runway vibe.” In keeping with the ship's light-vs.-darkness theme, select costumes will actually light up on stage.
Creative Director Jeff Conover confirmed the show will feature large-scale puppetry—a technique also used in “Disney The Tale of Moana” aboard the Disney Treasure—including a sequence in which Hercules battles the hydra. Conover noted that “some of the titans from the film” will also be rendered using technology never before deployed in the Walt Disney Theater. Actor Corey J. Bradford, who plays Hercules, performed “Go the Distance” live at the showcase preview.
Dining: Pride Lands and the Realm of Villains
Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King
Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King is one of the Disney Destiny's signature rotational dining venues, themed entirely around the 1994 Walt Disney Animation Studios classic. The restaurant's design creates an immersive savanna environment, with windows depicting different times of day across the African landscape and an authentic soundscape of African instruments described by Show Director Paul Bryant as “leaning into the authenticity of the musicians and their instruments.”
Signature merchandise items include a hyena sipper featuring Ed and a Timon popcorn bucket. Specialty cocktails previewed at the showcase include Can You Feel the Rum Tonight? (a mango-forward rum drink) and Slimy Yet Satisfying (a zero-proof gummy-inspired beverage). The restaurant also features hidden details that Lion King fans will want to seek out: Principal Production Designer Jay Abruzzese described character carvings in hallway walls and silhouettes that light up during the dining show. A live performance at the close of each seating covers classic songs from the film's soundtrack, including “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Hakuna Matata.”
De Vil's Piano Lounge
De Vil's is the ship's adult lounge, designed around the aesthetic and personality of Cruella de Vil. The Hollywood Regency-styled space features a spotted piano, glamorous cocktail menu, and live musical entertainment that recruits willing guests into “musical mischief.” Signature drinks include the Fashionista—a clarified tequila cocktail infused with freeze-dried strawberry and banana, served with strawberry shortcake popcorn—and the zero-proof Fearless Sir Galahad, a smoky, bitters-forward mocktail.
The Sanctum
The Sanctum is a Doctor Strange-inspired lounge modeled after the New York Sanctum from Marvel Studios. The space incorporates design details from the film's Chamber of Relics—including the Cloak of Levitation, suspended spell books, and sorcerers' Rune Shield symbols—alongside an inverted “Circle of the Cosmos” glass installation described as appearing “upside down” by design. Specialty drinks include the Vapors of Valtorr (vodka, ginger beer, and butterfly pea flower syrup) and the Circle of the Cosmos (gin and verjus with a lemon peel spiral).
Edna A La Mode Sweets
Edna À La Mode Sweets reimagines Edna Mode's design lab from The Incredibles as a confectionary shop aboard the Disney Destiny, inspired by the “Auntie Edna” short film. Signature treats include cupcakes named after the Parr family superheroes—including Mr. Incredible's Cupcake (double chocolate fudge cake with chocolate truffle mousse and a dark chocolate gold finish)—alongside gourmet popsicles, homemade chocolate bark, and Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums.
Heroes, Villains, and Grand Hall Design
Character encounters aboard the Disney Destiny span both sides of the hero-villain divide. Confirmed hero character appearances include Spider-Man, Black Panther, and an all-new Hero Minnie costume debuting with the ship. Villain encounters include Loki, Dr. Facilier, and Maleficent, who will appear in one of the ship's entertainment lounges.
Spider-Man as Stern Character
Spider-Man is the Disney Destiny's stern character—making him the first Marvel character ever to hold that position in Disney Cruise Line tradition. The stern sculpture features Spidey accompanied by multiple Spider-Bots, some of which have been given nautical accessories including snorkel masks and life rings. Principal Interior Designer Beth Burkhardt confirmed the sculptures were being shipped to Germany for installation at the time of the showcase.
The Grand Hall
The Disney Destiny's Grand Hall features a bronze statue of T'Challa (Black Panther)—the first time silver accents have been incorporated into a Disney Cruise Line Grand Hall sculpture, nodding to the Black Panther's vibranium-powered suit. The Hall's lighting system is designed for 360-degree transformation, shifting atmospheres dynamically as different heroes and villains take center stage. A chandelier above the Grand Hall is inspired by the meteorite that first brought vibranium to Wakanda.
Staterooms and Corridors
Hero-inspired design extends into the staterooms themselves. Oversized custom artwork panels replace traditional headboards, each depicting a famous Disney or Pixar hero with a “play on light and dark.” Confirmed designs include artwork themed to Hercules, Mulan, and Merida (from Brave), with Fantasia-inspired artwork reserved for concierge-level suites. Stateroom door number placards are character-inspired throughout the ship.
Merchandise Highlights
Merchandise collections aboard the Disney Destiny include the Spider-Man ship collection and a playful Super Character collection with comic-book-style artwork. Spirit jerseys from the inaugural collection were among the most-anticipated items previewed.
Why the Disney Destiny Stands Apart
The Disney Destiny represents the most thematically unified ship Disney Cruise Line has ever launched, weaving the heroes-and-villains narrative into dining, entertainment, art, and architecture simultaneously. The combination of a world-premiere song in a Broadway-caliber stage show, a first Marvel stern character, a first-of-its-kind Lion King dining spectacular, and an inverted-glass Doctor Strange lounge gives the ship a distinct identity within the fleet. Sailings begin with the maiden voyage on November 20; itineraries and staterooms can be explored at DisneyCruise.com.
